You can spot a Z51 pretty easy, just look for large drilled rotors and a splash of color on the calipers.
Unless of course you're looking at a car with the F55 MSRC option which also has the larger cross-drilled rotors

I personally don't like badges on a car (non-factory) especially one that designates an option package. The Z51 topic has been beaten to death though. Click on search and enter Z51 and you'll find enough reading for about a year.

Just about every badge on cars today are option packages. GT, SRT, LS, SE, ES, EX, LX etc etc etc, are all option packages.

Everybody likes to make things their own, so it's all good.

Welcome, and ask away on your questions, we have some good folks here.

Exactly what I was saying in another badge thread and most people didn't get it, ZR1, Z06, Z28, Z71, Z51... they are all option codes. Same with engine codes L88, LT1, LS3, etc....

ZR-1 and Z06 are models....not option codes,at least according to Chevrolet.

Go to Chevys website to the "build your own" for a Corvette....there's no box to check for either the ZR-1 or Z06.

Back in the 90's the ZR1 was indeed an option, but not on the current iteration....same thing with the Z06 going back to the early 60's.

Actually you can. Note that is a specialty plate for the University of Illinois (OSKEE-WOW-WOW!!!). The "regular" plate was probably taken long ago and there is another forum member who registered it in the vanity plate thread. But there are dozens of specialty plates and most in Illinois allow a letter and 2 digits. Many states have a web site where you can check the availability of plate numbers including specialty plates.

There are no dumb questions on this forum. First Vette or not this is the place for answers from a 99.99% great group of helpful people!

Especially on a Corvette. But, of course, to each his own

Corvette is the model no matter if its a coupe or a Z06...

Go to the site and there's no 2009 or ZR1 either... and a Z06 is a style... 3LT is a trim and Z51 is a package....

It all came from option codes, yes it is now considered a model, duhh... ten years from now Z51 might very well be a model too. Then everyone with a Z51 will have badges...

I don't recall a Jake Skull option either. But I see those "stinkin badges" too.

Funny, GM doesn't seem to agree with you.

While I agree that they are all Corvettes each is more than just an option according to GM. For 2008 the Corvette merchandising model designations are as follows:

1YY07 Base Coupe
1YY67 Base Convertible
1YY87 Z06

If you order a Z06 your build sheet says 1YY87. If you order either a Base, Z51 or F55 Coupe your build sheet says 1YY07. If you order a Base, Z51 or F55 Convertible your build sheet says 1YY67. I can't seem to find a merchandising model number for a Z51, nor can I find an option box to check for a Z06 when I purchase a coupe. In order to get one I need to start with a Z06 when ordering.
