Very simple. Call your credit card company and tell them do not pay XM for their service now and in the future. If they decline tell them you will close the account. They will do what you tell them.
I agree this is an easy way to handle it. Advise your credit card company that you did not authorize the charges and go back to when you canceled. It will then be up to XM to prove they are owed the money.
After my 3 month trial subscription ended in April, I did not renew. In July while on a road trip I called and activated for $77 for one year. That year expired July 14. With noisy tires and bad hearing I have not used the radio. Now I see a charge on my credit card for $39.71 from XM for a quarter.
Be careful. If you think you are verbally subscribing for one year at a discount price, guess again. It is a lifetime subscription with no warning.

I filed a complaint with the BBB about XM billing me after I told their rep to cancel service. XM said I did not cancel according to their policy as written in some of their wording in the agreement. I have not heard from BBB about my complaint as of now, give it more time. BBB list XM Co. as unacceptable.
I haven't, but I used the Canadian number that others have reported has more accomodating reps. I'll search for it and add it to this post when I find it.
If your cc company offers the temporary card numbers (BofA calls the service "ShopSafe") it's a great option. You provide the merchant a card number they can only use once and with a dollar limit you set. They cannot tell it from a regular credit card. Personally I use these for almost all Internet and telephone orders.
Located the Canadian number in another thread...866-553-5420. Good luck!
Thank you. As it turns out, I did not have to call the Canadian number. Today I called the number on the letter again. I got a different person and was able to get $77 for one year and they are mailing me an invoice. They said they had to charge $2 for that, but I would rather pay $2 and be able to send them a check.
