Not sure if it scratches the paint, but I'm not about to find out on my black car.

I wouldn't use the duster on a black car. Any particles being dragged across a black paint job will end up causing visible swirls/microscratching when the sun hits it.

In IMO "If used correctly" means if not used at all.

It does leave a little wax residue.

I have a black 2008 coupe and have used it a couple of times with no problems at all . It's great for light dust . I would not worry about using it on black.

I use one. I've used one for years on several black cars.

Here's the secret to success:
  • Make sure the car starts out clean and has a good wax job.
  • Wash your car frequently and only use the duster to remove small accumulations of dust between washings
  • Dust only when the paint is not hot to the touch, or else the wax on the duster will smear onto the paint.
  • Dust like you hate to touch the finish. Just let the duster glide ever so lightly across the finish, as if it were the weight of a feather.
  • Don't allow yourself to bear down on stuborn dirty areas or you will scratch for sure.
  • Shake excess dust from the duster before returning it to its holder

The benefits of proper use will be immediately obvious. A clean car with an otherwise unsightly fine layer of dust can be made to look nice and clean.

You can't expect to just dust continually over time and have the car continue to look clean though. The reason is road film will begin to build up on the paint and it will tend to catch and hold dust. You'll recognize the symptoms in direct sunlight because the road scum buildup will cause the finish to look dull. You'll also have to resist the temptation to bear down on the duster or 'scrub' with it. That will lead to scratching.

Follow these suggestions and you'll save yourself tons of time, have a beautiful car whenever you want to, and you won't damage your finish.

See my earlier post. If you do get a smear here and there, simply spray with detailer or plain water and wipe with a clean microfiber cloth.

California Dusters work great and have for many years. The trick is to let the weight of the "bristles" do the dusting. You shouldn't be able to feel the car through the duster. For those who are getting the wax from the duster on their car - you're supposed to condition the duster by laying it flat overnight on sheets of newspaper. They will absorb the excess wax.

They are for road dust only. Not dirt that should be washed off.

Edit - I used mine yesterday on my newly-waxed car (the day before) after an hour's drive to a car show & shine. The fellow in the next Vette was curious so I let him use it on his car. He was so impressed he was going to run out and buy one today.

it works fine, I use it on my LMB which is only 1 step below black on the swirl meter, and there are no issues. Just remember, it is for dusting, not cleaning dirt, and never use it when the surface is hot, or you get streaks galore.

Before you use it set it on newspaper for a couple days to absorb some of the wax, per the instructions.

A Calif Car Duster works great as long as you use it for "Dust". It is not a product for "Road Grime". If you car is dirty, wash it. If you already washed your car & it sat in a garage for a couple day & it's "dusty", then use a CCDuster.

Have one use it all the time for "light" dusting of the car surface, it does a great job.

Actually, "if used correctly" means you are lifting the dust off the surface of the car, and not dragging dust across the paint.

Theoretically it could scratch, but I do use it very lightly on th black vette w/o problems.

If you follow the previous post on how to use the duster you will not have any problems. I use it on my LMB and no scratches. After I use my duster, I will go over the car with Adams Detail Spray.
