I think a lot of people say that because they believe a Vette to be a much more costly car then it really is. Next time someone says that, ask them how much they paid for that Lexus, MB, or F250 King Ranch dually!

I have NEVER justified to anyone why I purchase something. I'm tooooo old to start now. If someone doesn't understand why someone would want to own a Corvette....it isn't my job to enlighten them.

The only thing I'm compensating for is 48 years of insufficent disposable income!!! A life long dream for me...my first Vette gets built next week followed shortly thereafter with museum delivery and a 1000 road trip home!

I'm a girl and I've only gotten positive comments from people admiring my Vette. When I was picking my car up from the dealer after an oil change the other day, the lady behind the counter started singing "Little Red Corvette" as she wrote up my ticket. Too funny.

And I guess if anyone ever asked me what I was compensating for, I'd be tempted to say, "Your Toyota." Totally non-PC I know, but I yam, what I yam :o

as with the other female poster, when i see a woman driving a corvette, i never assume that it belongs to a man friend or relative. i think that she is expressing her independence, not liberation. all cars say something about someone's personality, unless they are not a car person. READ PRIUS.

in texas, women are very high maintenance, and i have no problem with that, as the results are phenomenal. i love to see a woman driving an american sports car or muscle car. women driving japenese and german cars around here are a dime a gross. women driving an american hot rod, IMO are making a very serious statement about who and what they are.

to all of you guys who have not done so, make some close friends that are women, and you will be enlightened about many things and never regret it. i'm speaking from personal experience. and i don't mean friends w/ benefits

I get the same midlife crisis crap. I just retort with "Hey, if I could have afforded a $50+K (equiv at the time) car when I was 20 yo I would have bought one then."

They usually get it.

Then I get people I work with who really like it. I offered to let one guy take it on a supervised spin and he said "No, I'd never be happy again if I did."

One woman I know totally didn't get it about the Corvette and thought it was lame to buy a car like that. I took her for a quick ride around the block, and launched it with pedal to the floor when we took off. Suddenly she was laughing and said, "Wow, that was like being on a roller coaster it was so fun"

I thought that was cool, because she realized the real reason I bought this car. Waaaay more fun than basic transportation. It is my own personal roller coaster that I can ride anytime I want.

Not true. At all. I know several "car people" who own Priuses: one restores old European roadsters and owns a Ferrari 355, another tracks his cars and sport bikes, and another who's forgotten more about cars than almost anyone on this forum and is a regular on the historic racing scene.

In fact, I bet a disproportionate number of Prius owners are "car people" who bought one because they liked its weird drivetrain.

Let's put this stereotype to bed.

I don't think so. I bought the car regardless of price since I like the actual performance and looks of it. I could give a rats *** one way or another what others think of the car.

Other people probably think the female is driving the boyfriend's, husbands, brother's etc, etc, etc, car, resulting in nothing being said to them.

(I've probably opened a can of worms here, but . . . that's what I bet most people think, even the women) (armour on, and ready)

I'd wave to her, just like I would a guy.

I know what I'd be thinking, is that yours or your husbands? (I know that's sexist)

If I got a chance to talk to her and found out it was hers.......GOOD FOR HER.

My wife drives a Mini Cooper S. She likes my '06 vert very much but she would choose her Mini over my vette almost any day. (she does like the convertible)

Personally it does not matter to me what other people say or think. I got my C6 because I want to and I wanted one. Not to impress or please someone or my ego. That's not what it is all about. I don't have to explain myself to anyone, especially those who don't get it.

Hopefully I will avoid the inevitable "mid-life crisis" comment since I'm only 31.

The reason I'm getting a Corvette is because I've always loved and respected them. I appreciate the engineering that goes into them, the engine, the looks of the body itself.

I guess I'm compensating for the fact that there aren't all that many things in this world that give me the same feeling as a Corvette

I drive a vette simply because there was nothing else for me to go to when GM pulled the rug on my beloved Trans Am's in 2002. Problem is now that I have owned several vettes, nothing else will do. I actually went back to an F body and sold it in 3 weeks. The vette ruins a lot of other cars for me because nothing can compare. Its very difficult to find another car that does it for me like the vette does.
