Personally I'm glad to see them stand up for this blatant cheating of the system.
You aint got the card = you aint gettin the discount.
Perhaps if we all paid $100 per year they would not be facing bankruptcy.
However, To the OP: try again with a different operator and if you say "My father in law" just got XM for $77 - You probably will get it.
So, D Bob, what is the "card" we cheaters don't have? FTR, you are so very wrong re: "blatant cheating." I simply "asked" for the $77. rate. They agreed; entire transaction took just a few minutes...in toto.
Mine expires on Jan. 10th. I just sent them the formal letter to cancel the subscription. For those above who are going to wait for them to call.. don't. The contract you agreed too says that you have to send a regular mail to them at a specific address to cancel otherwise you are automatically renewed. If you don't pay, it goes straight off to the collections department.
I say I have 3 cars and if I can't get a good deal on all I cancel them all. Worked so far.
Really with all of their commercializing I can see why they are going bankrupt. I'm thinking about canceling my 3 now and getting my money back. If I have to switch stations 3-5 time on the way to work then I'll just go with local. At least it is free. Then I can load up my 6 disc for those commercial free moments.
I have renewed 4 times with my 05. Whoever answers the phone just ask for the cancellation dept. I told them that without the $77 program I would cancel. They have renewed every year, and each year they tell me this is the last time they will give me the deal....right.
Also, ask them to send you a bill and pay by check. I recommend you do not pay by credit card and have the possibility of them continuing the service each year at a higher billing on your card.
Renewed mine on 12/4 and got the $77 1-year deal without any problems or issues with XM.
OP: Call XM back and ask for the $77 deal. If you don't get the $77 deal, tell them you want to cancel. You'll be transferred to Cancellation. The Cancellation rep should offer you the $77 deal. Ask them to send you another invoice for the $77 deal and pay by check.

Peace, out.

The card is mailed to you from XM as a "teaser" to get you to come back once you have cancelled and/or let your service run out. At the time of your service interruption XM would be offering the service at regular rate renewal price.
So what you and other members ask for is the "cancelled" member rate given to win you back. It's a loophole... and constantly doing it and fostering its use here in my opinion is cheating XM. Some members admit to doing it year after year after year.
Personally I think $77 is all the service is worth but when given that price I know it's cheating XM as I should be paying full price since I am not a "win back" customer. I hope you don't believe you are innocent just because they accepted? You are a cheater just like me and everyone else who got the $77 improperly.
Until they close the loophole... I'm glad to see cases of denials and poor customer service... At least us having to 'work' for it is somewhat of a consolation.
I called last week to activate my radio [pioneer tuner] and the guy offered me lifetime service for $399 so I did it and it is reflected on my account. I have had xm for years so this will save me money in the long run.
I recall how SIRIUS folks bragged about the $399 LIFETIME subscription and wondered if that was going to migrate over after the merger.
I'll gladly pay $399 for LIFE, so I'll be calling this evening. I did see on their web site that they have "additional plans" but you have to call.
I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the heads up.
I just renewed for 77.00 a year but I did have to tell them I would cancel if they didn't. I never mentioned ZWINBACK and this is the third time I have renewed at 77.00 a year. You must mention that you will cancel or they will not give you that price.
