Default Odd...

I was over at the local mall today and saw a C5 in the lot. The owner had stuck a C6 badge on the back...

Not sure why he put the C6 badge on a C5, certainly not as bad as people putting Z badges on their regular C6.

Uh, so?

Sounds like a good idea to me. It's not like there's a badge for each car that reads "C5" or "C6".

Crossed flags is crossed flags. All they represent is the fact that it is a Corvette. If the guy wants to take styling cues from newer vettes, like their emblems, who cares? I think it's clever, and would be a neat, subtle custom touch for a couple-year-old Vette.

Man, some of you guys are either just elitists, or have no sense of creativity.

I was at the corvette shop a few weeks ago getting my 07 dynoed. An 07 base model pulls into the lot next to mine and the guy gets out and starts up a conversation since we both had the same color, Monterey Red. The thing is on his vette he has the Z06/505 hp badge on each side. It was the proverbial elephant in the living room. Suffice to say the conversation was short.

The real question is who are they trying to impress? Does putting an emblem on a car really improve it's styling... I hope not. I find all this emblem stuff tacky, but that's just my opinion, fwiw.

Yes, it is tacky, when you're putting metal badges on the side of your car that denote a random option code box you happened to check upon purchase, i.e. Z51 badges, or F55 badges, or "AL" badges to denote that your car has the hallowed Ambient Light in the passenger visor.

But when you're simply updating an older Corvette with newer Corvette cues, like say, putting C6 wheels on a C5 (which is the identical concept), or the like... I dont understand why someone would find that so apalling.

I don't think upgraded wheels is the same as slapping a C6 badge on a C5.

IMO the intent is obvious when someone puts Z06 badges on a C6 or when someone blatantly advertises his car as something that it really isn't...they're posers plain and simple.

The difference between the C5 and C6 crossed flag emblems, however, is more subtle...the guy using the C6 crossed flags emblem (on the C5) may not have known or even noticed there was a difference.

IMO it does not make much of a difference. Those who know will not be fooled and those that don't would not know what year it was anyway. For me, I have Stingray badges on my C6 because I like the look. I do not think anyone in the know would think I was driving a 1969 vette.

To each his own.

You make an excellent point when you say the guy with the flags may not have known the difference.

I'm all for it. That goofy oval that GM put around the flags was bad '90s kitsch.

The crossed-flags is the Corvette emblem, after all. Now people are going to pretend to claim some kind of ownership over the particular rendering of it on the C6?

If he went to the trouble to install them, he almost certainly noticed the difference.

He probably just thought they looked better. I agree.

Who do you think he was trying to fool? Non-Corvette people don't have a clue what emblem goes with what Corvette. Corvette people certainly know the difference and aren't going to confuse a C5 with a C6. I doubt he was trying to trick anybody and likely just thought the C6 logo looked nicer.

I see no reason why someone would replace a C5 badge with a C6 badge on purpose. Most people (including owners) don't even know the difference in the badges so why in the world would someone want to badge a C5 with a C6 badge? More than likely the guy needed to replace his broken/missing C5 badge and ordered/bought the wrong one and does not know the difference.

The C5 badges are cheap looking plastic where as the C6 badge looks a little more classy. Given that, I suppose there is a chance that the owner just liked the look of the C6 badge better. The bottom line is I would not call him a "poser". It's not like the badges say C6, C5, 400HP or anything... It's just another version of the bow tie

There are a bunch of things people do to their cars, trucks, and Corvettes that, in MY opinion, look tacky and devalue the vehicle. I'm a long time Harley owner and many Harleys fall victim to this. For Corvettes the list is long, lowering, crappy window tint jobs, color matched interior plastic, talk about ricer, crappy wheel tire combos, droning exhaust systems, big rear spoilers, air brushed hood liners, chrome side vent spears, giant chrome checkered flag license plate frames, how about a shift ball with a spider in it, looking good, the list could go on and on. Corvette owners love their cars, and spend allot of time and money doing things to their Vettes that they think are going to look great, personalize, and maybe impress others. If you don't like it, who cares, keep it to yourself.

Maybe the owner wanted to hang out with the C6 crowd at the weekly GTG's at Wells Fargo Bank in Poway. They all seem to park their cars there, skip socializing with non C6 owners, then walk over to the Outback for drinks.
