But this AOL Autos article on car names seems to prove the styling confusion!

I don't think so,though I have had guys compliment me on my "Viper". I just politely thanked them, and relegated them to that mental file of the clueless. What kind of red blooded American male doesn't recognize a Corvette? We came with that genetically hardwired into us,didn't we?

It is the headlamp assemblies of the c6 that give that car a passing resemblance to the Viper.
Instead of being wide, these assemblies could have been narrow -- thus allowing a more crisp fender line reminiscent of the C3. In one form or another, this is what you find on, say, the Ferrari 599, one or two TVRs, and the Fisker Karma. Yet each remains unique.
Among the positive aspects of the C6 headlamps are possibly a more modest production cost as well as a design that is acceptable to a wider group of potential buyers. (ie: less polarizing in opinion)
Just my two cents.

Viper first production 1990.
I actually think the Viper copies more from the E type Jaguar than it does from the C3 Corvette, though there are certainly many elements of the C3 in the Viper. Since the main styling elements of the C6 come from the C3 too, if there is any kinship between the Viper and the C6, it would come from that common point of inspiration.

They finally fixed it now and changed the pictures !
OK the joke was they had the C6 picture listed for both the Corvette and Viper. It appeared that some 20 something web master and Prius driver couldn't tell the difference between the Vette and the Viper.
