HELP!...I'm an idiot!
Pulled the vette into to garage this afternoon...not far enough to clear the metal bracket...it cracked the black cover on the rear brake light. The light is intact and there is no other damage...can the cover be replaced easily? is it a DIY (probably not), a dealer fix or a body shop issue?
Thanks in advance...

If your talking about the black housing around the middle brakelight, yes you can replace it. The housing is easily removable by taking the two center tailights out reaching in to unbolt the housing. The light itself can be removed and installed in a new housing. You can get another black one or you can buy one to match your exterior car color. There are vendors on the forum that you can order one from.

The non-Z06 part will run you $67.33 from Gmpartshouse.com, a little more from your dealer. The Z06 part is actually cheaper at $64.78.

Here's a little bigger picture of the LED one.....no big deal to replace....15 minutes with the right tools ...torx 15 for the tailights and 10mm for the tailight nuts inside....(providing you don't drop one of the nuts or sockets inside!!....go slowly and carefully on that part)

As others have stated, this is a real easy fix that will take 15 minutes max.

You may be an idiot but I think you are very lucky. This could have been MUCH worse.

Not to give you grief for what has happened. As others have mentioned, easily fixed. I use one of those yellow tire cradles to let me know I am in the right spot. It was like 10 bucks . I have used it in the last 4 garages I have parked the car at. You can put them permanently with floor screws. I just used a couple of folded over strips of duct tape to keep it from sliding. A very good investment for me.

I always worry about the bracket on my garage door so I never lower the door from inside the car. I always exit, check clearance, get a beer, and then lower the door from the switch on the wall while gazing upon the Vette. It's hard to drink a beer with a big grin though.

Each bay in my garage has an old golf ball stapled (!) to a piece of string hanging from the ceiling. It's adjusted so the ball just touches the center of windshield of the car when properly parked. Different adjustment for each car, of course.
Works great but I stole the idea from someone else.
