I think the cop took a shot at you out his window for punching it on a ramp.
To answer your question. No, no backfires here.

any service lights? check spark plugs and wires. Then check timing. then check fuel injectors? You are not burning the extra fuel for some reason or another. Do you Have a Tune on Car? Could be a bad tune also.

That happens to me often, 08 auto. I notice it when I have my npp in loud setting and I hit it then let off the gas - backfires like hell.

Not here as well yet...usually on the old cars when that happened under acceleration it was fuel starvation....perhaps a checkup on your fuel pattern is needed???? just a guess....good luck....so far I have not had one problem with this 08 vert and we love it.....

Thanks for that clarification, but I am not talking burble, it backfires like hell. It happens specifically if I get on it let up then accel again, it's repeatable. For whatever reason, gas fumes are apparently getting into the exhaust and igniting.

also. Burble, not backfire, when the NPP is open, otherwise nothing.

When you got on it, do you think you might have hit the rev limiter?

My C5 auto would pop when it shifted from 1st to 2nd WOT. It would spin the ties causing the engine to hit the rev limiter.

Definitely not even close. Accel briefly, let up then accel again - happens almost every time.
