I have not had a permanent front plate on any of my cars, ever.
I have been stopped 3 times by local small-town cops, twice given a verbal warning and once had a ticket that required I show them the car with the plate on it and then the ticket was dismissed.
The most recent in my C6 was by the big county's' Sheriff Deputy. I showed him the very cool Top Flight front plate mount and after I spent 1 minute putting it on, he let me go.
If I travel across the state I put the plate on. WSP is not as forgiving, at least not out away from the larger cities.
I didn't use to run a front plate until several in our club got busted. I now run the Topflite mount. It's removable for car shows and follows the contour of the nose.
We are required in Illinois. I have never had one on a Vette since 1989 and have never had a issue. I have purchased the new remote control plate holder and plan on installing it this week.
I got the mount that slides away, and now they are even making them motorized so that you can slide that plate out from the driver's seat!
And, yes, I do prefer the offset mount to the one in the center....to each their own, right?
Got the TopFlight removable mount and installed it yesterday. Promptly put the plate portion into the bin in the hatch where it will spend most of its life. If I get pulled over I'll thank the Officer for reminding me that I forgot to put it on after washing the car and install it right there. Hopefully, he / she will be cool about it and we'll be on our way.
I have Top Flight color matched front plate holder. Here in Texas the Highway Patrol will ticket you. Locals seem to not care. I got tired of checking the mirror when I met a patrol car.
Soooooooooo, you never ever exceed the speed limit, right?
1 MPH over the posted limit is breaking the law.
Note my word "intentional."
I don't go about my business every day with the specific intent to violate the law.
FTR, am a retired cop. Yes, I wrote lots of tickets for such violations as "Fail to Display (FTD) Front Plate," "Expired Registration," "FTD Registration Stickers," etc. Surprising (not really) what other violations the offender is commiting. I found that folks who don't respect one law or somehow think it doesn't apply to them also ignore other laws.
Can't tell you how many stolen cars I found upon having stopped them for such violations as "Speeding," stopped in a "Not Stopping Zone," and, yes, "FTD Front Plate."
