Default Widebody Kit

Hey guys,

I need some input. I had a slight mishap last night with the Vette. I am fine, and the car is functionally good. However, there was some body damage. The car is in good hands at a reputable shop right now. I already discussed the possibility of doing a Z06 widebody kit with the owner.

So let me ask the question. What do you guys recommend. Yes, after thinking about things, this is a car I will be keeping for a while. I love the looks of the Z06. I figure hey, I might as well do the conversion. In regards to wheels, I would like to do the Chrome Z06 split spoke rims - pre spider wheels.

I was told that I would have to cover costs above what it would cost to return it to stock. That is a fair deal to me, and is what I was expecting.

Anyways, moral of the story, don't drive when your blood sugar levels are too low. But then again, I figure I might as well make the best of it. The car's got plenty of performance, but I always loved the looks of the Z.

Thanks for the input in advance.

Widebody Kit....Just the rear wide Booty.... All of its great if u go the money. Gene Cully sold me mine, he is a vendor on here and he can help u get the best deal on anything GM. If you had to replace the parts anyway I would upgrade, the Z06 conversion is not only for looks it is totally functional. Good luck, do yourself a favor and give Gene a call, save u a bunch of headache!!!!

I really don't see a question asked??

But if you're asking if you should do it in general.....there will never be a better time to do it. The cost of the Z06 panels is not that much over the regular panels, except the front fenders.

How many panels were damaged and you're only paying the difference on? If wheels are damaged, you can get those for less than the insurance is going to pay for oem wheels.

FYI you can get fiberglass front fenders from Caravaggio visually the same as the oem carbon fiber ones. Will save you lots of $$$.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I learned a valuable lesson last night. A) Eat Dinner B) Eat After working out. My glucose level was 61 when 80s are normal. I just blacked out. Thankfully no one else was on the road and I am alright.

In regards to the car, I managed to get 3 out of the four panels painfully so. The front bumper cover, right and left front quarters, and the driver side rear quarter panels are all damaged. Also, the wheels are going to have to be replaced. So realistically, I am just about there. I'm going to get things priced out several ways, and weigh my options. I should have an estimate to return things back to stock later today. Thankfully the shop isn't busy.

nice.... your insurance should pay to return it to pre-accident condition and you can pay the parts price differences to upgrade from there

Exactly, this is why it's a perfect opportunity to do this. I'd like to go with OEM Z06 fenders front and rear, along with the original chrome Z06 split spoke wheels. Any ideas where I could get the best deal?

First, sorry to hear of your mishap but glad you are okay.

Here is the Z06 kit from gmpartshouse.com:

||--Z06 Body Conversion--||

Z06 Rear Quarter Panels – 1349.99 shipped!
Includes quarter panels, liners, brake ducts, inner/outer scoops, splash guards, and new weatherstrips and retainers.

Note: Z06 quarter panels only fit on coupe models without modification.
Convertible models can still use these panels, but they must be slightly modified.

Z06 Front Body Conversion – 4397.61 shipped!

Z06 Complete Body Conversion – 5726.17 shipped!

Includes front bumper, fenders, rear quarters, liners, ducts, mud guards, grille, etc.

Note: The front complete kit and the complete body kit do not come with the large front plastic inner fenders/wheelhouses that are glued to the body!

Note: These parts are Genuine GM parts and are not aftermarket substitutions!
Note: Front and complete conversion comes with hardware that is not re-usable!

And don't forget the Z06 brake upgrade:

||--Z06 Brake Upgrade Kit--||

Z06 brake upgrade kit - $1939 (Factory Pads)
Z06 brake upgrade kit - $1839 (AC Delco Pads – Please Call)

Kit includes:
Front & Rear Calipers
Front & Rear Rotors
Front & Rear Brake Pad Kits

You’ll need the proper wheels for clearance and you’ll need to purchase some aftermarket stainless steel brake lines for hooking them up. That is all you’ll need.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Just be prepared for major $$$ for the carbon fiber fenders. If I were doing the conversion I'd use the GM parts, but Caravaggio fiberglass fenders. They look exactly the same, but cost WAY less than the OEM carbon.

FYI as terminology goes... the fender is the front panel and the quarter panel is the rear. This was one of the first things I learned as an insurance adjuster. Cars don't have front quarters or rear fenders. The exception to the rule is something like a VW beetle which does have 4 fenders

I've got the Z51 package, and the stock brakes are fine. I am not looking to upgrade the brakes at this time. In the future possibly. I appreciate the replies.

Any idea where the best place is to get Chrome Z06 Split spokes?

Are you looking to get OEM wheels or are aftermarket reproductions ok?

Ideally, OEM's, but if I could find some quality aftermarket, that would be ok too.

Well scour eBay and Craigslist for cheper used OEMs. Best prices for new OEMs will be Gene Cully at www.GMpartshouse.com.

As for aftermarket... well there are quite a few places that sell them like House of Wheels, and Corvettewheels, and WCC, etc.

When I got into my accident, it was all cosmetic damage. The other driver was at fault and his insurance comp. paid to have my car fixed and i paid the difference to have a full widebody done. The insurance paid to replace all my wheels and tires and for a complete paint job along with all four fenders and a new clear top, i got a painted top which was cheaper. I ended up paying less than 1 grand out of my pocket to have my car done like I wanted it. Then the insurance comp. settled on medical and "other issues" which almost paid the car off! I am happy and I love my widebody!!!

I had been considering the wide body mod for months and then, BAM, got involeved in an accident. Small fender bender, that's all I needed to get me to buy the rear only wide body kit while it was in the shop.
Bought Z06 rear brakes and aftermarket split black chrome wheels.
Bought the wheels from Bob's and went with the 57mm offset fronts so I could mount the 9.5" wide rims with the Z06 275's tires on the front and keep them inside the fender lip.

I wouldn't do it just for the sake of appearance (form follows function) but if it's something you want to do and you can comfortably afford it...what's the issue? Go for it!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I've always like the looks of the Z06 just because it's a little more aggressive looking. But, if I can put some larger rubber in there along with the wheels I like, then it will be worthwhile to me.

I can definitely swing it financially. I'm just collecting data right now and weighing all options. I've also been thinking of just going with the wide rear. But I like the frong too. Haha.

Thanks for the input again, and keep it coming...

You should do it. I have the same issue. My blood sugar drops down into the 50's and 40's some times...but I've never passed out. you need to keep some food or juice in the car if you are going to skip a meal then work out! Also, get a sugar monitor. They only cost $20!

I would love to do a wide-body on my "07 coupe. The only thing that is holding me back is the $12K it will take to do it.
