Had some of the same issues when the windshield cracked on my 2003 Jag S-type. Got some pretty low quotes for replacement until more in depth research was done on the windshield needed. Could only be ordered from Jaguar because of the electronics built into the glass. They used my VIN to get the correct glass. Covered by insurance.
I received a small chip on the driver side; the glass repairman said it had to be replaced. Since it hasn't spread; I'm taking my time to get it replaced.

Any thoughts?
Should be covered by insurance whenever you claim it. Mine was right in the line of sight and pretty big so I had it done right away.
I got a chip in mine a few days ago, right in the line of sight, but only a small chip. Took it to a local windshield repair dealer. He repaired it. He told me a new windshield was $1400 plus labor to install. Only cost me $35 to repair. I think I'll go check my insurance to make sure I have glass replacement.
I automatically assumed they would take that into consideration, but assumptions are at the root of all major screw ups.
Thanks!
Be sure that they order the correct windshield - especially w/HUD. Also, check your rearview mirror once the windshield is installed since they can loosen up with a new mirror mount glued to the windshield. I had this problem when I had my windshield replaced last year.

I have two repaired rock hits.
I tried to get a replacement windshield, but gave up and had the repair.
I used the insurance recommended co and they tried to get the windshield and got two that were bad. One was cracked and the other had distortions.
Next I called the dealer and found out who they used. I was home when they came and he was about to start to remove the old one and checked the new one and it was not the right one. I don't have nav and it was for one with nav.
I'm just going to wait until I really have to replace it. Too many people out there who don't know what they're doing.
The dealership gave me a loaner, and would not let me pick up the car for 24 hours after the job was complete.
They had claimed that the sealant around the windshield, needed at least 16-24 hours to fully cure.
I'm not sure if its truth or tale, but this is what I was told.
When we had the W/S replaced on our C5, the shop didn't keep it quite that long but did hold it for most of the day even with quick curing sealant. He showed me literature about the cure time and also that many windshields today are considered a structural part. You need the bond to have strength, not just water tightness.
Can anyone tell me the correct procedure to fit a screen to a c6 z06 as the new one i have had fitted is sitting too low, ie the rubber trim on the roof line is not under compression leaving high edges on the side 'A' Posts. You can also push a thin plastic object like a credit card under the roof panel... The fitter said the glass can only fit one way as it sits in clips on the body and cant move up.. The screen came from a main dealer and has the GM stamped on it. Can anyone please advise as the car has sat in the body shop for 2 months now
