Headers
My question is does anyone have sound clips on just a Header swap? Is there much of a diff in sound?
Also where is the hp/tq gain ? down low or up top?
thanks
Nick
I did a quick search and this thread was the first example I found with header only dyno results. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...d-pricing.html

If you want a nice (better or louder) sound, then invest that header money, into a good after market exhaust.... Lot of good choices out there from Corsa to Billy Boat to Magnaflows to Borla Stingers... Take your pick.
Good luck....

headers and npp's will make a great deal of power gain, after a tune which is required.
Headers are a building block to good power. Alot of us started with headers as one of the first moves. Its all about deep breathing. The Stock heavy cast iron manifolds restrict breathing terribly. Headers open up the exhaust. If you want to add only sound and the stock hp is enough for you then maybe you want to just add mufflers. If you want SOP more power, get headers. The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Long tube headers are an essential component of one's overall performance modifications (with IMO an added plus of improving the sound quality of the car).

Go with long tube headers, high flow cats, cold air intake and a tune
Results on my GS 431 at the rear wheels. Basicly made up everything lost in drivetrain.
Put Kooks headers and cats on my GS. Even at idle, it has a substantially different sound, but not loud, just wicked. And when you open it up, holy smokes, it sounds awesome.

Headers will give you performance as well as sound. Exhaust, while a necessity for sound sake, does not give you any perfomance on a C6.
It would make a very slight hp gain and a slight bump in the low end torque side, but in my opinion, not worth the cost. When I owned my C5, I did a tune only and had a K&N cone put on (temporarily) when they did it, as they didn't have a Calloway CAI in stock. The tune cost only $300 and before the tune, the car pulled 291 rwhp... After the tune, +30 hp to 321 rwhp.
When the parts came in, I had ARH LT header, a Calloway CAI, X-pipe, hi-flow cats and a Corsa Indy exhaust. After all those goodies installed and a tune, the best pull on the dyno gained another +30 hp to 351 rwhp.... BTW, those extra 30 hp cost me over $3000 (including labor).
Let's take a look at things... The 1st 30 hp only cost $300. The 2nd 30 hp cost $3000. A tune alone on ANY car can open up 20~40 hp. Headers alone are only good for 10 to 20 hp and hi flow cats and exhaust is good for another 10 to 20 hp.
If you want to open up a real hp gain, you need to make the engine really breathe and expel the exhaust at an increased rate.... That means tapping into the heads and adding an aggressive cam. Headers are there to just get the exhaust out faster and better, because you're going out of 1 7/8" pipes to a 3" collector and out.
Before you start telling me about the advice I gave the OP, I lived it. I did my mods step by step and I've seen the power gain each mod gives you, as you bolt them on, one by one and then did dyno pulls. Why didn't I move on for heads and a cam? Because by the time I was ready to pull the trigger, I knew I was going to buy a C6 Z06, so why waste the money? $5,800 for another 50 to 60 rwhp? That would only bring me from 390 to 425 rwhp. Instead, I put that towards the Z's downpayment and was on my way to a newer car that is putting down at least 470 to 480 rwhp stock... BTW, the shop that was doing the work is considered one of the best on the Eastcoast... But they ain't cheap.
Finally, XEUROTRASHOWNER... You're absolutely right, you make power at the heads not the muffler, so why did you say I gave the OP bad advice? The guy only wanted nice sound, not a power gain. I told if he's not doing heads and a cam, then don't waste his money on headers, the same money spent on an exhaust system would do the trick... Like you said, sound comes from the exhaust and while headers do enhance the sound a bit, $1800+ for quality LT headers alone ain't gonna get him the result he's looking for.... But a nice set of Borla stingers would and will make his car sound truly obnoxious.....

That would mean your only losing 5% in the drive train?Average is about 15%
The one dyno sheet i've seen for a stock z06(that was f/s on forum) was about 435 rwhp.Plus your suggesting he trash the dual mod mufflers for Borla mufflers?
Like i said "bad advice"
GET HEADERS/CATS/CAI AND A TUNE, SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR WARRENTY AND HELLO TO BETTER PROFORMANCE AND SOUND.

However, if you search and read this forum a majority of people gain more power with Headers and a tune, than just a CAI and tune, thats just a fact. I'd put money on it.
Also, you are comparing HP per dollar based on someone else doing work for you. ALot of us put our own headers on, so no charge for labor.
You're absoutley correct that the biggest power is in working with heads/cam.. which you need headers to take full advantage of that, so headers are a natural and logical progression.
