To lock it you might try manually pushing the fob lock button.
I don't think the OP asked how to lock the car. I think he's concerned that the autolock option might lock the car when he didn't want it to.
I've not tried it, but I don't think it will lock when you walk away from the running car with the fob in your pocket.
However, if you have 2 fobs, it shouldn't be that difficult to find out. Leave one fob outside, a safe distance from the car, 30 to 40 feet, and try it with the other fob.
...but he's walking away with the FOB in his pocket. I think he *wants* the car to lock even if it's running and he gets out and walks away.
Of course...now would be the time for the guy that's always screaming at us about telling people where the super-secret key location is on the C6 to jump in and say "See...now that he's walked away from a running car someone can sign up for CF, post a question on where the key location is on our cars, steal the guys key (from his pocket?), unlock it, hop inside and drive away"!
Anyway...I'll go out and try it and see what happens.
My 05 will auto lock, if I walk away with the fob in my pocket. Locked my wife in who promptly set off the alarm opening the door as I was getting a newspaper!
It may be possible. I change back and forth between my street tires and my track tires frequently. My car is not set to lock automagically. Although I'm one to always carry my fob/keys in my pants pocket, when I put the car into learn mode (to reset my TPS's) I occasionally set the fob/keys on the console and get out and reset the tire sensors.
I generally leave the driver's door open while I go wheel to wheel resetting the sensors. On one occasion, I reset the front wheel sensors and for some reason walked back around the front of the car and I casually shut the driver's door. Much to my amazement I discovered the doors had locked and learn mode was terminated. Fortunately I was home when it happened so I just got my spare fob to unlock the car.
I checked to make sure the auto-locking feature was not engaged and I tried replicating the 'problem.' Sure enough, it happened again. Why this happens in learn mode I don't know. From that point on I don't leave the fob/keys in the car when I reset the TPS's, I leave the driver's side window down and I don't shut the door. I figure I'll cover all the bases.
it gets really hot in here during summer .. so sometimes i park the car in front of a supermarket for a short period of time .. or get food while the car is on ..
I tried walking away with FOB but does not auto lock .. tried it manually with the button .. still no good.
it reaches 122F over here so i need the A/C to be on for sometime!
Yes it does autolock when you walk away with it running! Test it by walking away and watching for the flash of the running lights. This will confirm that the car is now locked and still running!

This has become very popular with the rich little old ladies in Palm Springs. If you go into a supermarket parking lot in the summer, there will be lots of Cadillacs, Mercedes, Jags etc that are locked and running with the A/C going full blast. Its really funny to see. Some even do it while in a restaurant eating lunch. Tough on the car when its 118 degrees outside.

mine locks with engine running...have locked my wife in car while at atm...she now opens her door when i get out!
I left my key in the cup holder with my wife in the car to push the button to change the light, when i got back, she had to let me in. I did not know it would auto-lock with the keys in the car.
