Well I got pulled over for the Colorado State Highway Patrol doing 73 in a 60. We were cruising down US550, the Million Dollar Highway. We stopped in Silverton to look around, shop, eat and then I started to feel ill. Knowing my wife had zero chance of driving in the mountains we left for our hotel in Montrose.
20 miles from Montrose I passed a slow pick up (going below the speed limit) but didn't slow back down. CSP was going the other way. He was extremely professional and I explained to him that I wasn't feeling good and even showed him my Garmin that had Walgreens already selected. He gave me a warning, told me to drive the speed limit and asked if I needed an ambulance.
We were about to go to Aspen the next day but it was raining and I wasn't feeling that good. Drank mostly fluids till we were almost back home in Utah.
The car did great. I didn't get any pics since I was more concerned with getting my wife out of the mountains. I averaged somewhere north of 30mpg, 33mpg alone on I 15 yesterday for about 150 miles. I'm feeling better now, gradually getting my apetite back. I could have really used a nice trip since I lost two dogs within 10 days before that. By lost I'm saying they passed away. I probably caught something from taking care of the puppy last weekend.
This trip made me realize another good reason for having an automatic. I have one due to a bad left hip but my wife can't drive a manual. We would have really been screwed if I couldn't drive for some reason.
Also I forgot to mention the CSP solicits my rating of the experience. I plan on calling them and see if they have a charity such as something for familes of fallen troopers. I really have no trouble with the trooper. I told him straight out, I was speeding.
I don't think a radar detector would have helped since he was going the other way and I didn't see any cars in front of me that he would be able to target. I usually use cruise control when I'm out there alone, right around the speed limit also.
As LEOs go, I've had pretty pleasant experiences with CSP too. Unless you're a long-haul trucker, we have a real nice state to cruise through, until you run into... uh, pretty much any county sheriff. I also haven't seen a motorcycle cop out for five years in decent weather. Still can't figure that one out.

Sorry to hear about the dogs. Sounds like you've had better days. Glad to hear that the encounter with the LEO went well. I find that I can set the tone of the encounter by starting off being polite and not acting like a jerk. After all they are just doing their jobs.
IMO there is no point in acting like a butthead around a cop because you will lose then. If the LEO gave me a ticket then I wouldn't blame him, it was my fault to begin with. I was just thankful the wife, our Corvette and I made it back home in one piece (besides the rock chip on the windshield).
However, be warned about driving around Colorado. I only spent about 250 miles in Colorado and "saw" about 12 cops, all looked to be doing traffic enforcement.
What is the range of a good detector anyway? I know it depends on the landscape conditions. I don't think there was anyone ahead of me for about a mile.
Nice to be stopped by a LEO with a bit of understanding and get a break.
I just asked the question yesterday how many here have been given a break by LEO's? Well at we know of one for sure! Bottom line despite some of the anti LEO comments "We are actually people just like the rest of you"! Simply doing our jobs while making a thousand judgement calls a day.
If you're polite and the offense isn't to egregious good chance you get a warning from many LEO's. Grab a snotty attitude with me and I politely write a citation. I've given out a lot more warnings than citations in my 20 plus years.
Always be polite if stopped because it can do wonders in avoiding a ticket! Most LEO's really aren't out to get you.....
I got let go with a warning recently too, after stopping me the cop said that he had go to pull over a lady (who I happened to be overtaking when he clocked me) and that was more important and let me go. Told me to take it easy to which I nodded in agreement.
I had the exact same experience 2 weeks ago - passed two slow movings cars after trying for 2 or 3 miles to get around them. Finally get open road without the yellow line on my side and passed them and sure enough a CHP was coming the other way ( in one of the white cars ). He flipped a U and stopped me and just asked for license etc. No break here - 70 in a 55 plus no front plate and side window tinting ( 35%). This one is going to be expensive !

Just get a V-1 it will save you many times over. Even if once it just paid for itself. The only thing is laser if it goes off it is too late.
Sorry you weren't feeling good but glad you got a warning instead of a citation. That's beautiful country...I used to spend a lot of time in that area. It's a tradition, I got a ticket near Aspen the last time I was there.
