This will not end well.At the very least,2 wheels, maybe tires too, wipe out one side of the car.Minor to moderate suspension damage as you 4 wheel over something concrete, you pick the object and trying to come up with a good excuse to insurance as to how the damage accrued. The worst case scenario, you get stupid sideways and wipe out the car.Hopefully if its the later no one gets hurt.Enjoy your lesson. What Im getting at here,if you need to ask you shouldnt be doing it in a car with at least 400H.P. weighing less than 3300 LBS.2 thumps up!Its actually kind of amusing to visualize this............before it actually happensI just noticed your avatar. Is you car a Z06?It gets better.Hey guys, keep your eyes out for some used Z06 parts.I hear the wide body crap is pretty popular, atleast the parts that are useable

This thread takes the cake. Any manual C6 will fry the tires from a roll, and any OWNER should be well aware of that. There is no need to dump the clutch, or worse yet, dump the clutch, and apply the brakes. The key to exceleration in a C6, or any performance car, is to try to NOT go up in smoke off the line. Exibition is for kids, and if you don't know what you are doing, a C6 is NOT the car to learn in. A C6 could get away from you in a hurry.

You definitely need to watch this:

See the body damage (at 1:59/2:27) after the smoke clears.

I'm guessing you want to drag race at a track.

The burnouts you see at a drag strip are performed just BEFORE the race. You drive thru a "water box", then do a burnout... this helps clean & dry and heat-up the tires for better traction.

So, I'm also guessing the OP wants to know how drag racers do a burnout AND stay in place. Just google "line lock" and you'll have your answer.

Nannies off and dump the clutch...period...do as many burnouts as your heart desires/tires/Vette can take...replace tire/parts when needed and repeat....Enjoy

Totally agree with some of the other posters in that it's easy to spin the tires from a dead stop but getting a decent holeshot with minimum wheelspin with AH and TC off is a heckofalot more challenging. $.02

Plenty of fail in this thread.

Do know, that we all have to start somewhere, so those ripping on you for not knowing how to do a burnout in your car, ignore them.

Are you attempting to learn this for use on a drag strip. I hope that is your purpose for asking.

Do not try this on the street.

At any rate, some prefer using a 1st gear burnout, the author below uses 2nd.

http://www.rangeracceleration.com/Burnout.html

A line lock, while useful, is not entirely necessary.

For those who asked, a line lock allows the front brakes to be "locked" without the rear brakes being locked. It uses a button or switch to do so. When it is activated, the front brakes lock, the rears do not and this holds the car in place allowing the rear wheels to spin more freely when throttle is applied.

When the burnout is completed, the lock is released and the car allowed to move slightly forward. If you are going to be doing a lot of drag racing, then a line lock is useful.

You don't need a Z06 to do it; standard C6 is plenty.

Steps:

1. Go to Hertz and rent ZHZ.
2. Find safe road.
3. Mat gas pedal.
4. Return car to Hertz.
5. Repeat as needed.

Depends what gear you're in. Personally, I like 2nd gear burnouts that require a little more RPM's prior to dumping the clutch.

Lots of good info here but it's probably not something you want to do in the vette because of wheel hop. Wheel hop can nuke your diff. To the contrary, most guys here worry about hooking up so they can launch effectively. Burnouts will not impress normal folks, they'll just wonder why you're destroying your tires. Street tires don't require burnout at dragstrip, maybe a chirp.

I guess the first question should have been what are your intentions.

A line Lock is a setup racers use to lock the front brakes to heat the rear tires during a race. This is done through a switch and a solenoid.I dont know the exact setup but basicaly this is the deal. When the line lock is used it ONLY locks the front brakes.

it's not the burn out thats the problem it's when you want to stop, pull your foot off the gas and then it hooks up, I've seen several "stud's" wreck their cars when this ocurred

That's a fact. I watched a DB (short for DoucheBag for you old guys) in a rice burner do a burnout off the line and then when he hooked up made a very clean left turn over the center divider and into a McDonalds planter. Absolutley DESTROYED the car. And it was only a turbo'd Eclipse with a giant exhaust pipe. (nobody got hurt) My brother and I couldn't stop laughing for hours
