The NPP exhaust option is a definite step-up from the weak sounding stock Corvette exhaust and I commend GM for recognizing the need and for acting on it. Many C6 owners enjoy the ability of their car to go from quiet to a somewhat more aggressive tone. That being said and no disrespect intended, I'm not a fan of the NPP exhaust. IMO its mechanically 'gimmicky' and I feel certain after market exhausts sound better and generate roughly similar hp gains (not that an exhaust is considered a peformance mod). I don't like the part-time sound quality of the NPP exhaust...I want an exhaust that sounds good all the time (not just in a certain RPM range). The switched exhaust add-on is popular to correct this deficiency in the NPP exhaust but I feel there's something inherently 'hokey' about flipping a switch to change the volume of your car (just my own prejudice). If I want to make my car louder I press the gas pedal.

I'd recommend you don't take the NPP exhaust option. I feel you're better off going with a quality, after market exhaust produced by either Corsa or Borla.

I disagree here.
As you said, I am not too into having a gimmick on my exhaust (such as the flapper valve inside the NPP). However, the drone inside a corvette without the option will drive you up the wall if you are on a long road trip. I close the valve manually (via M2W switch) when I am on the highway for a long time, or if I am on the phone. Otherwise it stays open.
I have always bought performance exhausts and fully intended to purchase one for my 2008 coupe. However, the option to turn off the "corvette drone" (the drone, BTW sounds like **** and is not a pleasing rumble at all)
If you are ever going to use this car on the road for anything other just short trips the drone will drive you sane.
The option to turn the drone off makes the NPP sooo much better than the options out there that I wouldn't have it any other way - and EVERY other vehicle I have has custom exhaust on it and my Vette would too, except for this glaring problem (the drone).
I would have ended up buying the corsa exhaust otherwise, but I am entirely happy with the NPP and at this point, I wouldn't even consider trading my NPP for a Corsa exhaust SPECIFICALLY for the ability to use the "hokey gimmick" on/off switch that the M2W offers to turn off the drone.
The tone of the NPP when open sound every bit as good as any other exhaust out there too!

So,

my vote is, like so many here YES to the NPP!

Default Ah..

Get the best deal on ANY car you want... with or without NPP, as you can add it pretty easy... I did, on my 06... Swap mufflers, install switch. If you get a set of take-off's, it is about $1000... just figure that into the car you buy, If it has NPP you can pay $1000 more. And the people who say it is quiet... either had Z06 Bi-Mode, hard of hearing, or want Nascar sound... as I would not want it any louder when open, like the thousands of others that have it.

The sound of the NPP with the butterflies open is well worth it. Every time I start the car (default power-off position is open), it makes me smile. I'll be buying the M2W switch soon and no doubt I'll leave it open most of the time.

Robert.

I have LG headers and cats being force fed by a Vortech T-trim(dont know if that increases sound of exhaust) running through NPP with NPP in a box. At WOT is is very LOUD. in fact louder than I thought it would be. The NPP in a box makes it tolerable on long drives, talkin on the phone or chatting with the wife(). And when I take the Vette to a fancy function like a wedding or something its nice to quickly civilize the car with a touch of the visor button.
