Default GM Nav disk update

Hi,

I inquired about getting a Nav disk update and this is the answer I got, and after my third inquiry this is the answer I got:

Good afternoon,

Unfortunately, your vehicle does not qualify for the free navigation
disc. The offer was for 2006-2007 model year vehicles only.

Customer Service
I am surprised by this answer, does anyone concur?

Cedric

Yup, thats true....with '08 and on, you get a nav disk with the car and thats it. And the updates don't make much, if any, difference anyway, so you aren't missing out on much.

It's not like they started free then stopped. 2005 owners also only got 1 disc.

No, my dealer said I will get an update DVD every year when I purchase my car in 2007.
The first two years will be free of charge and then I will have to pay.

Completely true, for a 2007 model, not a 2008 that was purchased in 2007.

IMO..the whole Nav System in my 08 Vert is a piece of junk. Very user UN-FRIENDLY....and it has put me on the wrong roads and dead end streets more times than I count. I use Mapquest now and print out the directions.

I agree with the captain. I am entitled to 2 upgrades, but I didn't even bother because I still don't know how to use the nav system after 3 years of ownership so who needs the update anyway???

Someone who takes the time to learn the system so they can use it.

Read Talon90's tutorial.

I guess if I had free upgrades coming, I would take them, even if I just put them on an auction site and sold them...why turn down free money...

The Corvette C6 has had a bit of a storied past with respect to the nav disc free update program. The original program was only available to 2006 and 2007 model year cars. For 206 and 2007 models the owner was entitled to receive two free updates on the first and second anniversary of their taking delivery of the car. This was so horribly miscommuncated that no one knew the details of the program and folks were expecting to be able to get updates years later after taking delivery. For the 2008 model year the program was stopped.

Model year / Nav disc status

2005 / Updated discs will work in the unit but are at the owners expense. Version 1, single disc navigation DVD.

2006 / Two free nav disc updates, any additional updates will be at the owners expense. Version 2, single disc navigation DVD.

2007 / Two free nav disc updates, any additional updates will be at the owners expense. Version 3, single disc navigation DVD.

2008 / Updated discs will work in the unit but are at the owners expense. No free updates. Version 4, two navigation DVDs.

2009 / Updated discs will work in the unit but are at the owners expense. No free updates. Version 5, two navigation DVDs.

2010 / Updated discs will work in the unit but are at the owners expense. No free updates. Version 6, two navigation DVDs.

Your profile indicates that you have a 2008 C6. Your dealer was wrong.

Yes. There are no differences in the way the 2005 unit interprets data from the 2010 unit. Any disc from any model year Corvette will work in any other model year Corvette.

Paul:

Any idea when Version 6 will become available to those of us with 2009 Version 5's disc sets? According to GMNAV.com Version 5 is the most current disc available for a 2009 owner. I assume Version 6 has more current maps and points of interest then Version 5.

And you believed him?

Seriously, go back to the dealer and remind him of what he told you. Maybe he will order you one at his expense.

It sure sounds like it. You can tell by checking the part number on the front of the DVD.

2005 version 1.0 p/n 10381886 one dvd
2006 version 2.0 p/n 15779679 one dvd.
2007 version 3.0 p/n 15932106 one dvd
2008 version 4.0 p/n 25852830 two dvd's
2009 version 5.0 p/n 25976806 two dvd's
2010 version 6.0 p/n 20861474 two dvd’s.

If you have the version 4.0 two DVD set it will be an east disc and a west disc.

Yeah well, touch luck. I'm not forking out 200$ for something that I rarely use.

Only thing that annoys is that I had to contact them 3 times to get an answer. Talk about service ...
