Help......check gas cap
Hello,
Here is some information that might help you with your situation:
3-54 Owners Manual
CHECK GAS CAP: If the gas cap has not been fully
tightened, this message will appear. You should
check your gas cap to ensure that it is on properly.
Once tightened, it will take at least one overnight park
to reset or clear this message. If there is a CHECK GAS
CAP message and a malfunction indicator lamp on in
the instrument panel cluster, you may need to see your
GM dealer for service. See Malfunction Indicator
Lamp on page 3-41 for more information.

It's interesting to read different owners and how they tighten their caps. The warranty letter states not to press down on it. Some members say not to tighten more than a few clicks. I can turn mine around and around many times and it still seals. I've never had a check gas cap light.

This isn't a Windows or Mac computer. Turning off the power doesn't "reboot" it. Disconnecting the battery MAY reset volatile errors and settings like the window indexing or a lock up of the CD player but there is also non-volatile memory just like the hard disc on your computer is non-volatile. Codes are in non-volatile memory. Some are reset when the problem goes away for a while (like the gas cap message) and some never go away until they are reset with a code reader.
