radar time--PLEASE HELP DECIDE!!!!!!
If you need it for this weekend, delivery time may be a factor... you can pick up the Escort 8500/9500 locally at any Best Buy. I think you have to order the Valentine; I don't think they sell them through any retailer.
Cheers,
Kent
There is no "best". If you want state of the art and GPS, get an Escort 9500ix. If you want state of the art and arrows, get a V1. If you have an overabundance of money, get a custom installed.
The CON to the Valentine is the wire. Valentine doesn't sell a cordless model because they believe that battery degradation will hinder the effectiveness of the unit. The FIX for this is a simple wiring kit that is sold through a forum vendor that allows you to splice the power to your Rear View Mirror. I have no tacky wires going to my cigarette lighter anymore and the Valentine starts up when I hit the ignition. It turns off when I shut the car down. Pretty simple fix IMO.
Go with the Valentine...

cruse control is my Radar ... LOL
set at 73 mph. and I whistle past sitting Sta ties pointing da gun at me...
But It only takes me 4 sec's or whatever it is to get to 73, lol...
Another good thing about this unit is that it can be upgraded when needed by Valentine should they change their versions. They also keep your serial number on file if they should come across it if stolen.
Don't end up with a pile of radar detectors that become obsolete.
Speeding does not equate to killing people, that is a bit extreme. In Northern VA, in fact, it is MORE DANGEROUS to go 55 on the interstates here because even in the right lane, you will cause traffic problems as people try to avoid you. I regularly, and consistently, drive 10-15 MPH over the speed limit on the highways here. The troopers won't pull you over at that speed, and you are only barely moving any faster than most other cars in the right lanes anyway.
I learned from riding motorcycles some very important principles to driving safely, I call it "active" driving. When safe and reasonable, I will go 5 MPH or so faster than average traffic because it "slows" things down coming from my rear hemisphere of threat (important on a motorcycle) and allows me to focus on the traffic ahead more efficiently. Less people end up in my blind spot because I clear them before changing lanes by passing people (nobody can sneak up on it there). Do I still check them? Yes, and that is why I know that it works.
I can't imagine that the vast majority of Corvette owners would waste their money on a car only to drive it exactly the speed limit everywhere they go.
My point here is, speeding does not equal irresponsibility, per-se, and certainly not "killing". People just need to drive responsibly for the situation.

I've had one for 10+ years now and don't regret the extra duckets it cost to buy.
