Yes... The windsheild for those who have the factory HUD costs just a little more than the standard glass...

That sounds ridiculous...I did mine at a dealer here in Dallas and the windshield cost me (well my insurance) $729. This is a GM replacement also. I'm not sure it matters if it has HUD or not. They didn't ask me and my HUD is fine. Maybe they got it from the VIN though.

I carry full glass coverage at an extra charge. I'm concerned (when I replace my HUD windshield) the insurance company will consider it 'specialty' glass and decline coverage. We'll soon see I guess.

lol USAA FTW... full-glass is included! Aparently, I can get up to 3 per year per car, covered w/o effecting the cost of the insurance... I had to ask after replacing a 3rd windscreen on the STI.

$0 deductible for glass...

2 grand's about right. I had a replacement on my old C5 with HUD. Had to be imported and came to about £2K (about $3K at the time) with shipping and taxes. Cost me £50 insurance excess Felt sorry for the company that replaced it - they got a fixed rate from the insurer of £170 for every screen they replaced...some they win...some they lose, big time

There are three windshields listed in the GM parts book:

No HUD, no Nav = $547 list ($420 or so online)
With HUD, no Nav = $1270 list ($975 online)
With HUD, with Nav = $1035 ($800 online)

At one time it looks like there was a "No HUD with Nav" option also, but no part number exists

So $2K seems a bit excessive, but within the realm ...

Glass shops are notorious up chargers.
A few years ago I brought my station car to a local glass shop. I had to replace my WS as it had a spreading crack.
First quote: $775.00
Told him I had to pay out of pocket - $285.00
They get it where they can and are ALL negotiable.

Wow is right...Corvette Tax in full operation there!
I've heard there is a specific windshield for the HUD but others have said it isn't really required. I had my small rock chip repaired (for nothing) last summer and that has worked out fine so far.

Had one replaced last week from a rock hit on the way home from Bowling Green. $1956, insurance price. Even though I don't have nav, there is a gps system, I guess for the compass on the mirror. An extra $400 over one with jus HUD. Thank goodness for 0 deductible.

Replaced mine on the Grand Sport last week. W/HUD and NAV it was $1350. I have glass coverage so the insurance paid 100%. The NAV is for the OnStar antenna.

I've been thinking of having a chip repaired. Did it look OK after you had it done? Can you still see the chip? Its been a year or so since the rock got me so I'm not worried about it spreading so it would be just cosmetics. Not worth the effort if the chip is still obvious...

Zero ded on the glass is pretty cheap. Not sure but think it is covered under the comp coverage. Think it is about $15 more every 6 months. Well worth it in my experience.
