Default 2008 Vette dash split open

Got into my Vette today after work (it has been very hot here in FL!) and noticed a split in the dash right dead center of drivers side close to the edge of the oval. Its like the heat caused it to split and due to pressure that it had at this bend a small portion has peeled back. Unable to press it back into place (split is approximately 2 inches long) and was wondering if anyone else has had this happen. Nothing has ever been mounted or sat on the dash but the car is in direct sunlight all day. Is this something the dealer will replace or am I gonna have a battle on my hands over this defect? All replies welcomed! Thanks, Cheryl

Bring it back to the dealer and they do not need to know how long it sits in the sun. They will have to put a replacement in. Do NOT let them try to "fix" that. Let us know what happens.

I agree. They must fix it. I don't see why they wouldn't.

That's a good reason to use a window shade while the C6 is parked.

I've never seen a thread on it before so it probably is just a defect. Should be a warranty fix.

Ahh the life of a garage queen. We don't have problems like this

Yes, they will have to fix this under warranty. I would push hard to have the offending piece replaced. If they don't replace the piece with a new one, then make sure that you get it in writing that their "fix" comes with a lifetime warranty.

Dude, I hate that happen but, really sitting in direct sun all day? How could you? I won't even take the vette out for drive in direct sun. I always wait till after 06:00 p. - I agree with the others, that sounds like a defect and should be covered.

I agree with the others that it should be covered.
I also agree that you should use a sun shade if your parked in direct sunlight all day.

Warranty.

All autos manufactured are tested to withstand ambient's way above the normal highs for any given area of the country as well as the lows. You have a claim. Period. No matter whether you didn't use a sun-shield, or didn't park in the shade cause it was sooooo hot......, yaaa daaa yadada......

Probably wouldn't hurt to spray on some UV protection, like Aerospace 303, on the new dash, once they've installed it.

They should cover it under warranty.

Get this into the dealer and get a new dash installed while under warranty

Someone said it...always use a windshield sun screen when you park your car in the direct sunlight. Also, I suggest you use 303 Aerospace Protectant which has UV filtering properties. There's no telling what the dealership might say as you haven't demonstrated there was a manufacturer's defect. That said it seems unusual a dashboard would split open on such a new car. Let us know what happens....good luck!
