I'll say it again, better safe than sorry...one drop of any kind of lube on each of the four hinges. Family members may have learned to be gentle, but guests may not.

Lubrication is the key. Just a drop on each hinge once a year or so have kept mine working smoothly and silently. Just about everything works a little better with some lubrication
My research indicates that I am the only person on earth who has not broken a C6 visor mirror hinge.
Now, I've gotta figure out why; because I'm not particularly gentle with them. Same with my wife.

I have a question. Mine broke too, If I remove the lightbulbs from the mirror and removed the cover will there still be an electrical current that will drain the battery?

No. Without the lightbulb the circuit is not complete. Instead of removing the lightbulb, I just unplugged the connector to the visor, but the effect is the same.
Both of mine are broken too. I refuse to spend $400 to replace them. I will unplug them and live with it. Unless someone has a better idea to fix it. Damn the bad luck and shotty parts from GM. This is an epic FAIL!!!!!!
I had the same problem (passenger visor mirror hinge) on my former Mercedes a few years ago -- would have cost $200 to replace it. My wife was so angry she said not to do it and simply kept fidgeting with the mirror for years to make it work without replacing it. It's really annoying when they make something so cheap and breakable on a car like this. The proof of how unfair it is for them not to replace it gratis (even out of warranty) is this: If it were a safety issue, I'll bet it would be a recall item in a heartbeat.
Mine have also broke.
I did a repair using velcro cut into small pieces on the corners.
Then I cut small strips mount them next to to broken hinge.
This works fine. You just have to pull the cover a little to get the velcro to release at the corners. At least I can still have the lights work and didn't have to spend 250 for 2 complete visors.
Anyone else have another method please let me know.

Is there any way that you could take a picture of exactly what you did?I'm not quite following your fix

Me too, driver's side in a 2005. I'm going to use some silicone grease on the passenger side. May see if I can put in a micro, press on, press off switch or look for for minature hinges.
