2010 GS vs. 911

2010 GS vs. 911
I'm looking at buying a Vette or a 911 CS, and I think I want the Vette. I'm smitten with its brute power and sexy lines. But for the $70K budget, man, I could get a very nice used 911 CS - which seems to be the undisputed favorite of every sports car reviewer.
I know, it doesn't matter what they think, only what I think.... but being in doubt of the soundness of my attraction to the Vette over the 911 and its legendary road feel, I'm looking for moral support here.
I'll use this car as a daily driver, and hopefully some track visits now and then. Manual tran.
What made you choose your Vette over a Porsche 911? Would you do it again?

I wrote up my impressions of driving a GT3 compared to my new supercharged GS on this thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ot-taking.html
Obviously, the 911 CS and GT3 are very different cars, but I have also driven the Carrera S and I guess what it comes down to for me is the difference between a front engine setup versus rear, and the difference between a big displacement 90* crank engine and the boxer engine. To me these two characteristics are the fundamental differences which define the Vette and the Porsche. Growing up in the U.S., from my folks Chevy wagon, to my first beat-up muscle car, to my third Vette, I feel more comfortable in the former versus the latter, so if I can only afford one - I choose the Vette. Having said that, Porsches are incredible cars and if I could afford both I'd own one.

16 Vettes and counting…..
I've owned both. Nothing really bad to say about the 911, but it's just not for me. From the styling to the character to the performance, I'm more of a Corvette person. It just feels right to me......I know that doesn't give you much help but ultimately it's a personal decision. What's right for me may not be right for you. Having said that, you can't go wrong either way.

I think you will find that if you buy the GS you will be in love and if you buy the 911 you will want a GS shortly after. Who else makes a rear engine car, no one, there is a reason for that. I believe the GS has 51/49 weight distribution.

$70K?????? You're looking at a Z06 at that price instead of a GS.
I don't know where you're located, but check the C6 Dealer Inventory section of the forum.
Lots of new 2010's out there.

I have owned both and love my current Vette. It has the power and the looks, if it were a Porsche 911 Turbo that would be my choice, but not a "Plain" 911.

I'd take the 911 Carrera S over a Grand Sport any day.
And I have a Grand Sport.

I spent enough money on my Z06 to buy a clean used Porsche. But for the money you get a Porsche with a whole lot less power and a car that will soon be out of warranty. I can't stomach the thought of what it would cost to own one out of warranty. And where I live, there are more places to use the horsepower than any minor handling advantages the Porsche might have.

There's no question Porsche makes an amazing machine (at least most models). I admire and respect Porsche but I've never had any desire to own one. For whatever reason they just don't do 'it' for me. I see a great number of Porsche's at the race track...some stock...most modified. My modified C6 is far from being the fastest Vette on the track. I don't feel disadvantaged running with Porsche's. At the various tracks I run on modified Corvettes dominate the list of top ten fastest lap times and I believe hold the course records (time trials division). There are all kinds of fast, capable cars on a road course...I've seen blazing fast Porsche's and I've even seen a 'racing' Honda that can smoke any stock Vette around a road course. My point is with some modifications your Corvette can handle...take a road course as well as a Porsche.

The Vette is the undisputed best overall value. If you do not optimize on value, then you are go for other attributes and our opinion don't really matter.
My other interest was the Ferrari 360 Modena, 3rd was a Boxter S. These are nice mistresses, but if I am going to marry, it is the Vette.
Good luck...

Just goes to show: everyone has an opinion. Yes . . . no?
It is personal and it is somewhat subjective.
Now, please, for the sake of civility, don't ask what color you should get. Although, I'd go red or yellow or orange. Nix the blues and blacks.

The Porsche 911 will cost you lots more and if you are a tall person, you will have issues with the cockpit area. I had the same questions and went with the Vette. There is more room
(i am 6'3" tall) and my Vette was 20K less. A base 911 suggested retail is a bout 80K. My 2010 GS 3LT cost me 58K plus TT&L. The Vette has a smoother ride. JMO.

I have to agree with the post above regarding owning a used P-car that's out of warranty - too much day-to-day anxiety wondering what may go and what it costs to repair. I'm a certified 911 fanatic and I thought that was what I was going to buy but I couldn't afford a new one and the IMS and mainseal gremlins in the 996 series made me go to the vette. I'm happy with my decision for now, but I'll eventually own another 911 - and hopefully a vette also!

I've driven every variation of Porsche minus the Carerra GT. From the Cayman all the way up to the GT2.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, connects the driver more to the car than a 911. I absolutely love them, but can't get past the fact to get the power level I'm used to is going to cost me double what my Z06 did, plus a little. I know that I will eventually own one however.
For whatever reason, anytime another car is mentioned here, some seem to take it as a personal affront. I'm a fan of all performance cars & don't pray at the altar of any mfg. A lot of people do though, which is pretty sad because they are missing out on some truly remarkable automobiles.
Edit: There is one car I've driven that is in the same league as the 911 when it comes to driver feel.....the Audi R8.
