During and open track day at VIR North course a few years back, a Mercedes got sideways in T6, caught the gator and rolled over into the tire wall. Driver was fine and OnStar was calling before he could get out of the car.

A few minutes later a dozen blue lights appear at the top of the hill overlooking the turn. The State Police were training on South Course and came over to help. It looked like a scene out of Smokey and the Bandit...

Yes, I've just signed up for a free year after canceling last Fall (mostly because my Vette was going into storage and I figured I'd wait until Spring). They do allow you to suspend service when in storage up to 6 months per year of service. They tack on the unused period to extend your termination date. I've done this for the last 4 years.

I received an e-mail in February offering 6 months free but didn't act on it immediately because I wanted to wait until I got my Vette out of storage. 3 weeks later, I got an e-mail with the 1 year offer and took it.

There are two offers, 6 months and 1 year, I got both offers about 3 weeks apart and signed up for the 1 year free.

I was also told by the On-Star agent when I called that the offer was only for 6 months but I insisted that I just received an e-mail for 1 year free. They put me on hold to check and came back with a confirmation that the 1 year free offer was valid.

when i activated my onstar when my silverado was new they gave me the same phone number as wal mart...and it was close to Christmas.Imagine everywhere you drove your onstar calling you and people think you're wal mart while you're driving. It was a nightmare. I wasn't impressed they didn't give me a non-used number...

I got the one year reactivated on my SUV. It is the safe and sound plan. I did not know that they would let you
suspend the service for the cars In storage. I will have to ask about that when I get them out I got the email and a regular mail from them but never pay attention to anything from them.
They had some offer for minutes on the phone but I never used it when I had it. I am surprised they did not push the turn by turn or other services.
Thanks to OP for the info!

No, there was no obligation to get the 1 year free.

Sorry for my cynical nature, but I’m just not accustomed to being treated that way by a large corporation. You should be in the middle of my mess with Directv – they really know how to screw you without the benefit of intercourse.

I just called onstar and they said it was only for 6 months. I complained with the agent and she refused to even listen and said if I dont believe her to go to the web site.
I only received the 6 months.

The 6 month offer is part of the current promotion where you get entered into a contest to win a GM vehicle. I'm OK with the 6 months I got but would have liked the 1 year.

I'll take it. Six months takes me until September and that's fine with me.

I signed up for the free 6 months (didn't try the year, I wasn't aware it was an option.) Although, I did log into the website with my account info and it says it includes turn by turn nav as well? I also added 60 minutes for $5. Never know, might come in handy

Well, heck, when you are James Bond you sure don't want people to know where you are.

Now seriously, are you paranoid about Onstar, but call yourself 'James Bond'?

Wonder if they'll give me a free system upgrade? My '05 still has the analog system and will not connect with OnStar. I know their web site says upgrade is $15 at the dealer but a $200 subscription is required.

Just don't take no for an answer. Hang up, call again and get another agent.
