Default Trunk lid pull down handle

My 2005 C6 had a little handle in the right corner to grab to pull down the trunk lid. My 2010 C6 has the indention where your hand would go but not the crossbar that you would need to grab and pull the trunk lid down with. Is this correct or is it missing? It would be an easy thing to correct by the dealer I suspect. Thanks

They omitted the handle I believe in 08. Also the hood light, ambient light and can't remember if anything else was left out.

My 2006 has the handle, and I believe the 2007 had it also.

However, somewhere around 2008 it was left off.

Rumor has it that somebody held on to it and slammed their hand in the hatch and sued GM over their own stupidity.

Pull down handle was eliminated in the middle of the 2007 model year, approximately Dec. of 2006.

Console lock was eliminated at the beginning of the 2007 model year.

My 05 had it and its on my 2007. Car was built August 2006. Discontinued shortly after that.

Just a side note, I never use it. I pull it down by the center latch. The handle don't look too well made.

MY2006 had it as well. I am guessing that it was eventually omitted to avoid legal liabilities concerning some future person failing to remove hand from inside the handle as the lid drops. Amazing what companies have to do to minimize law suit exposure.

The more I hear of what was eliminated in the 08 on up models, kinda make me think it offsets what they actually improved. I'll keep my '06 thanks.

No handle on my '08 Coupe. I think you are supposed to somehow grab the indention with your fingertips and pull the hatch down. It doesn't work very well IMO.

I always wondered what that indentation was for...

I simply hook the metal catch with my index finger and give it a good tug. So far, I have been smart enough to let it go before it slams shut.

You would only use it to lower it. Then you just gently push down from the top of the deck lid and it self closes.

Just FYI if you don't have the handle and wonder what we're talking about, you can see it in the video below.

I took the video a couple years ago when I was adding an auto pull down latch onto my 2006 Z06. I had a 2005 coupe with the auto pull down latch and missed it on the Z06 (the early Z06 had just a manual latch like the vert has - I believe it wasn't until the 2009 model that the Z06 got the auto pull down version), so I installed one on my Z06.

Anyway, you can see the handle that used to be on the hatch lift gate, and the indentation is still there on the newer cars and if you ever wondered what that area is, that's where the handle used to be.

I have it and use it on my 2006. I wonder how much money they have saved by eliminating the hood light, mood light, console lock and pull down handle. My hood light was not connected when I purchased the car new. It is not connected to this day.
