I have two very small, pin head size chips on the front edge of my hood. The chips are small but since they are white they stand out on the Lemans Blue (at least they stand out to me). I was thinking about a small dab of touch up paint, a small blue dot has got to better than the small white dot...right? I went to paintscratch dot com, there is a clear coat a base coat and a primer...Do I really need all that for two small dots? Any suggestions?
Your dealership will stock or order the GM touchup paint, each current bottle comes with a small brush and also a ball point pen type applicator for small scratches.
When I get a chip (3 small chips in 31,000 miles without any kind of bra), I use the touchup paint and get on with life. When I hit the open road, that clears my mind from obsessing about tiny paint chips.

Enjoy!
Thanks Jim. I didn't want to get into 3 types of touch up paint to touch up a chips.

dont use the brush with the touch up paint... why? it puts a big blob on the chip and when it drys, it pulls together and leaves a white ring.
take a paper match... trim then end of the match stem to a fine point.. put a small dab of touch up paint on the wound and stand back, let it dry. Do it again. Then do it again until the fill becomes even with the surface.
If you want it done right I suggest you take it to a pro. Not long after I bought my 2005 I had a large fluorescent light bulb pop-out of the fixture and fall about 10' onto the hood (what are the odds?). There were several dings in the paint. I bought a paint pen (with clear coat) that was supposedly the correct color (mag red). The paint turned out to be too dark. It didn't match. The too dark red may have been better than the white ding marks but not by much. IMO if you want it done right take it to a quality paint shop.

Then finish up with a credit card (or other flat flexible plastic) wrapped in a clean white t-shirt (small piece). Apply a small amount lacquor thinner to the center of the flat side and very gently rub the spot until it becomes more acceptable - should take less than a minute. If you don't like the results, start over after it dries for a bit.

Do as Wolfdogs suggests and top it off with a dab of clear.
another vote for drcolorchip. I used it to touch up the leading edge of my passenger door.
Our doors are so large and they don't have a middle detent in the door hinge. It's either too small to get out of or all the way open. I wish there was a third detent in the middle so I can open the door to get out without it being all the way open! if nothing else, this would make it much easier to park in a "normal" parking lot or even garage.
