I know that if you have a car with over 430 HP that it would be fun to drive (Z06 or ZR1 as example) but if you are not interested in taking the car to the drag strip, where can you use that much horsepower and not get a ticket for speeding? In Ohio, it seems like every time I let her rip in first and just starting to sound good in second gear, I am over the speed limit and a state patrol car is coming from the other direction. I don’t think the excuse of trying to remove some carbon would be accepted. Today I was lucky to let the foot off the gas before the radar hit. Maybe it’s just my luck but I cannot imagine 600 plus horse power and not losing your license in a short period of time. I have an elderly relative that tells the story of getting stop by police for speeding in his family car and he told the police he was just blowing out the carbon. The police told him to do it in lower gears. So I guess I could tell the cop that I was only in second gear.
You are right, I just got a ZR1 a couple of months ago and when I take off hard I can only do it for about 2 seconds as it's approaching 50 MPH so I shift into 2nd and up through the gears settling down at 45. Quick thrill but way too quick.
Going to hit some road course tracks around here to cure the urge from time to time.
It is tough to find places to let the Vette stretch its legs a bit but sure is fun when you do find that spot. Sometimes just knowing the power is there is almost enough.

Kevin, that's the answer.
Heading over to our cruise yesterday we hit some 'fun' speeds for a few seconds, but that gets dicey. Fortunately, we have the Autobahn County Club close to us. Track time is the answer.
I think 430hp is plenty for any legal uses so any Vette qualifies as an awesome street machine. I have the Callaway package on my GS which brings it to 606hp. All I can say is the extra power is great for quick starts and passing but I'm watching the HUD very closely (no speeding tickets yet).
MARSC6 - Watch out for the deer. Ohio is bad enough but PA is terrible. I had to make trips to St Marys PA for many years and the number of dead deers on the highway was incredible. I live in an area where there are some test tracks but no way will they open them to the public. I would even pay to have the opportunity. Would anyone know of a place in Ohio that would let you run on a track (not to race but just enjoy)
The first three gears are all I can get thru. Forth and fifth not so much. I knew that going in . I can still do WOT at work (MPG). The East/ West Straightaway is my Fav. or the Circle Track 4.5 miles around. The day my come when HP this big is gone for good. I hope not, I have a 32 + years of addiction. GM is my pusher, and they pay for the drug... Try to drive slow on the streets. I know it's hard to do in these cars.
I had three deer run out in front of me last weekend. Great brakes saved me. If I had been in the SUV , there would be blood.

A funny, but true story. When I was taking my first 'vette out for a test drive in 1967, I almost hit a deer and wiped out the '67 roadster in the process. My wife had a fit, and I think I almost had to change after that!

In Florida we have to watch out for wild boar. (Was going to say wild pigs, but knew the reaction that would get )
I get my regular speed fix on a road course and it makes me a much more conservative (safe) driver on the street. I can get on a track a couple weekends a month and drive as fast as I possibly can. If I didn't do that I'd probably be in deep ****. If not a road course find a drag strip in your area and go there often.

it's really the only sane solution to the problem...

I like to open up on the on ramp to the highway while I try to merge with traffic.
I say we trade in our LS motors for some 4-bangers. That way acceleration takes longer and we can spend the extra time it takes to enjoy it. Who's with me?

Hey, don't knock those 4-bangers. My Miata may not have kept up with a Vette but you could ride around like your hair was on fire, and have a red one for weekdays, a blue one for weekends, and a yellow one for holidays for what I paid for my GS...
