I've decided I need to keep a set of jacking pucks in my car. I am reluctant to get the metal ones since they seem to be smaller in diameter than pucks. I am fine with making a set and it is cheap. However the convenience of the BMW ones is tempting. A few questions for those who have them: I know they stay in place all the time - are they firm, do they rattle etc? Also they seem to be only a half an inch thick from what I read on the BMW site - do they provide enough clearance on the Corvette to do the job? How does the diameter compare to hockey pucks?
I keep two sets in my car. The BMW pucks and the standard hockey pucks with the eye bolt. I have found that depending on what jack or lift the garage is using, sometimes the BMW do not have enough height, then I have to pull out the hockey type pucks.
I do not keep the BMW pucks installed, but keep both sets in a ziplock plastic bag in one of the storage compartments in the rear. Both sets are easy to install and remove.
Having both sets with you is cheap insurance.
Good luck,

I use the BMW jacking pucks but I think it's a mistake to leave them in all the time. I've heard of a couple instances where 'installed' pucks snagged on something but primarily they're made for a particular use and purpose...use them when needed and remove them promptly when you're done. Why be lazy and just leave them in? They stow-away nicely in the rear storage compartment.
They're easy to remove...pull the center pin down a bit and use a screwdriver to gently pry them loose. I modified my BMW jacking pucks. I drilled part way into the center pins and then screwed small, brass screws part way in (leaving the screw head and some thread sticking out). This makes it easier to grab onto the pins with pliers or a Leatherman Tool.
I might be rare but if your car ever needs to get towed the pucks will have to come out anyway. If my car needs to be towed I'll be PO'd. The last thing I'd want to be doing is lying in and rain and mud, in the dark, along the edge of a busy freeway trying to remove my front jacking pucks before the tow truck arrives.
They go on pretty snug. I've forgotten to take them off quite a few times and have not lost them while driving. I prefer to take them off. Keep 2 in the cubby and 2 in the garage.
To take them off, simply put a flat blade screwdriver between the puck and frame and give a quick twist and they pop right off. I can also take them off by hand but the finger tips take a beating doing that so I use a flat blade screwdriver normally.
They stick down enough to clear the rocker panels IF the jack has a flat pad. The ones with any kind of lip around the perimeter of the pad you just need to position it.
I have a feeling the C7 will not need jacking pucks. They will somehow be integrated into the design. Too many cars have been damaged by ignorant dealers that forgot about how to properly raise a C6.
There are two styles of BMW puck. I believe the OP is asking about the round ones (which I have) and Wayne O describes the the square ones.
The round ones come down a hair past the rocker panels. I leave mine in and they do not rattle. They can't "hang up" on anything because they hang down maybe a 1/16 of an inch below the rockers. They pop off by inserting a flat blade screwdriver between the shipping slot and puck.... then twist. I like mine and in a year of driving I have not lost one.
I started with the taller rectangular BMW pucks. I could see them at certain angles and one got knocked off by a piece of road junk (I didn't see it soon enough at night) so I switched to the lower profile round BMW pucks.
I leave them in all the time. I don't use them myself since I use two pump jacks, one for each end of the car, with crossbeams to raise my car. I have the BMW pucks in to protect the car when someone else needs to lift it. It has been lifted by the dealer with the round pucks with no problems.
I like the idea of having them there in case it is lifted out of my presence. Just one of those 'cheap insurance' things. I've read too any stories about cars being lifted without pucks and cracked rocker panels. Here's one that was just posted...http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...at-dealer.html
Thanks guys for the info. From what I have read, the aluminum ones are lesser diameter and there is a question about it being wide enough to distribute the force without distorting the metal base of the car. Not my opinion, only paraphrasing what I have read in other posts on the forum.
The BMW round pucks seem to be the way to go, 1/16 of an inch is not much clearance but anthing greater than zero should do the trick.
Heres the BMW rectangular pucks on my car. They've been on since I bought the car in 06. Set em and forget em. You would have to get down on all fours to even see them. Been on this site for a couple years and have yet to read anyone ripping them off or damaging the car in anyway bottoming them out or catching on anything. Look at the pic. If your hitting something that high on the frame rail theres gonna be thousands of dollars more damage than what these little pucks would contribute.
After much research I finally decided on the Elite Engineering pucks which arrived two days ago and not only look and feel cool. I had considered the rectangular BMW ones but thought that they were simply not tall enough to be adequate for different hoist / jacking applications. Plus I thought the cost was pretty high for what they were. The pucks being sold on eBay made of hard rubber I didn't trust because of whatever ingredients Chinese manufacturing uses tends to smell pretty bad and keeping them inside the car would not be a good thing.

I had one knocked off by a piece of road debris (as posted earlier in this thread). Fortunately it just scratched the portion of the rocker panel under the car in the process. I doubt there was any more damage than without the puck but I went to the round ones anyway. Since they are are beveled on the sides they should be less likely to have something catch on them.
I think what happened to me is unlikely, but I was missing one puck anyway I just went the 'safer' direction. I actually liked the idea of the taller (rectangular) ones better since they gave more clearance. Some lifts have lips that could reduce the clearance to the rockers.
Think your the first I heard of somebody even losing one. Im thinking whatever hit the solidly mounted puck with enough force to remove it also is what caused your scratched rocker.
I also went with the rectangular ones due to the height. I've heard (as you did) that there can be issues with some lifts, jacks. Just one less thing I need to think about.

Could you possibly give me the part # of what you have on your car? I'm looking for the same thing, something I can install and forget about, that way I know that a shop will have to use them if they're already installed.
Sorry, I got them years ago. Dont even think I knew the part # at that time. I just walked into my local BMW dealer and asked for ther rectangular jacking pucks. They popped on in a minute or two and fit and work they were specifically designed for the C6 Corvette.
I have seen the part #'s for both types here but dont know it. Someone one will have that info or a quick search should get the # for you.
