I was robbed at gunpoint this morning in the 24 Hour Fitness parking lot. I am OK, but the bad guys got my wallet and my key fob (but didn't hurt the car). So now they know where I live and might come after my car.
Here is my question: can my car be re-programed so that the fob that was stolen will no longer operate it? I need to buy a new fob and could I have it (and my spare) programmed to operate the car?
Do you have a spare FOB? IF so, immediately do the "Long Method" and reprogram the FOB. That will totally eliminate your stolen FOB from communicating with your car. If you do NOT have a spare, BUY ONE and then do the reprogramming. When you do the long method, the 1st FOB you put in the slot becomes the #1 FOB no matter WHAT the case lettering on the FOB says. You can add a FOB with the short method later if you need a #2 FOB.
Mike, I'm sorry to hear what happened. We can guess by your forum name where it happened.
I agree on going to the police and insurance company, but would also consult with a dealer regarding programming the FOB. I'd also beef up security where you live and notify your neighbors as well to be on the lookout for anything suspicious in your area.
Best of luck getting through this.
P.S. - if you don't have a dog with an attitude, I'd get one. Great companions and a loud bark will scare off most criminals.

Not good...I'm glad you weren't harmed. The car might be the least of my worries. Anyone desperate enough to do an armed robbery is pretty hard core. Replace and reprogram the fobs and take extra measures to protect the family and your home. Hopefully, they took the cash and credit cards and pitched the wallet (with your ID) along the side of the road. Load & lock....be vigilant!
Sorry this happened and I am glad you are ok Good advice already given in this thread. I assume you talked to police and insurance already... get on the phone (if you have not) and cancel all your credit cards, bank /ATM etc.. etc...
Unfortunately the Corvette is an attention getting magnet for thugs and the like.
That's why I now have a Virginia Concealed Carry Permit which has reciprocal recognition in most southern/mid-west states...
Glad to hear you're okay. This seems like quite the daily occurence in Houston. I workout at multiple 24 hours across Houston, what location did this happen at? I hope everything works out for you!
