Just retired and am buying for a c6. I had originally had my mind set on a ZO6. We plan on driving it on trips and short pleasure runs. Is a ZO a good choice or should I be looking at a different model?? Some of feedback I've gotten concerns noise and tire wear. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance JIm
If you are looking for a 2011 or 2012 I would definitely say the GS. Keep in mind the tires that come with the Z06 or a GS coupe with a stick are VERY different than those that come with a vert or automatic. The G2's vs the F1's, G2's only good down to about 40 degrees. See the tread patterns from Tire Rack below
I drove both (I am just waiting for color selection then will order my GS) and was very pleased with the GS and the ride of the F1's. I just don't see the G2's wearing as well for street use. IMO

What ever you choose enjoy the ride!!!!
All C6's come with Goodyear F1's. Base C6's get Goodyear F1 GS-2's. The GS convertible and the GS coupe with the A6 get Goodyear F1 Supercar GEN1 tires and the GS coupe with the manual transmission gets the Goodyear F1 Supercar GEN2 tires(as does the base Z06 built after 2010).
Both the Supercar GEN1 and GEN2 tires are ultra high performance summer tires and don't do well in the cold. The GEN2 tires are supposedly a better tire then the GEN1 tire, but the class is still on recess about that. Both the GEN1 and the GEN 2 have horrible wear history. I'm running Bridgestone RE050A tires on my Z06 which originally had the Goodyear F1 Supercar GEN1 tires.
Don't confuse a Goodyear F1 GS-2 with a Goodyear F1 Supercar G:2 tire. Two different tires. For clarification, Goodyear and TireRack call the GEN2 tire the G:2.

Exactly, and this is why the base C6 equipped with the F55 magnetic adjustible suspension is the most comfortable, practicle and best handling Vette for driving on everday roads, and in a variety of weather conditions, bar none; especially when fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport ZP (All Season) Plus Runflat tires.
You get the best deal on the base coupe with 2lt for the good seats and more choices for tires.
I agree. If paying for new tires down the road is going to be a problem, then the base C6 is the better choice. But if you have your heart set on a GS or a base Z06, then the Bridgestone RE050A run flat tires are much cheaper then the Goodyears or the Michelins. I paid my local dealer $1567 for my Bridgestones including mounting, balance and taxes for my Z06.

Right on the money. A Z06 will wear you and your passenger out on a trip. Unless you will be doing track days, a base with F55 or a GS with F55 will give you all the power you need for public roads, and be MUCH more comfortable on trips.
Do you speak from experience?
If you want a Cadillac well then buy one.
OP, if you truly want a Z06 you will be happy with it. We love ours and take it on trips and it never wears us out. It is truly a blast to drive. If you just want a Corvette any of the above suggestions are good. If you really want the Z you will always wish you had it.

OP, you may have trouble finding a narrow body coupe (cushiest ride and longest/easiest tire wear), as a lot of dealers have gone to just stocking the wide body vettes, but if you do find one, I bet you can get a smokin' deal on it. A lot of dealers having trouble moving those units compared to the wide body cars, so you can probably make a deal, and even find a hold-over '10 or '11 model discounted.

70% of new C6 buyers for the past two years are not interested in having the most comfortable, practical and best handling vette. Must be something other then those excuses as to why 70% of the people buy GS's, Z06's and ZR1's.

What is your car owning history Jim? Have you owned performance/muscle cars in the past? Do you want the car to cruise or occasionally get your foot into it.Does the top need to come off? Do you require an automatic? Do you want and can appreciate something more exotic and a step up from the rest? Are your a "gearhead". Do you come from a mechanical background and /or racing background ? There is a C6 Corvette to fit any of these criteria. Generally the C6 coupe (Narrow body) will satisfy most. For short money the GS wins the best bang for the buck award. Many more features than the coupe. Only you know if a vert is on your short list. Finally nothing needs to be said with regard to the Z Vettes. With a little research and your appreciation for true performance, they are in a league of their own among the Corvette world and beyond.

No wonder I've been tired lately,I thought I was coming down with the Flu or something. My wife also, she goes to bed early every time we go for more than a 50 mile ride. My god ,have some of these owners even driven or owned a Z?

if you do get a "base" or "narrow body", don't settle for the "base" seats (ones without airbags). They are not good for a long haul. The seats in my 3LT GS are much more comfortable and adjustable.
