Default Which Model????????

Just retired and am buying for a c6. I had originally had my mind set on a ZO6. We plan on driving it on trips and short pleasure runs. Is a ZO a good choice or should I be looking at a different model?? Some of feedback I've gotten concerns noise and tire wear. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance JIm

Look at the Grand Sport if you don't need all the power, but want Z06 brakes, body...Many others will chime in soon.

For best tire wear and long trip, GT comfort, look at a base model with F55 suspension and the J55 (formerly Z51 pkg) brakes.

Next step up would be a Grand Sport with F55 and it already has BIG brakes and wheels and faster wearing tires.

Z06 would be my last choice for trippin'.

Based on the criteria you (the OP) has listed, this is exactly the order I would recommend.

I just posted this in another thread:
"Knowing what I know now, if I had to, or wanted to get another Vette, I'd still get a C6 Coupe, or maybe a Vert.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Z06.
And Really like the GS and can't beat the way they look and perform for what they are.
Just that the C6 suits my needs and wants best of the 3 models.
IMO anyone getting a Vette for the first time should take into consideration all 3 models before making a decision.
Just my 2 cents and food for thought "

If you like the Z06 for the looks, the GS meets that with a better ride. If you like the Z06 for the performance, an LS3 with some work can easily surpass a stock Z06 in performance. If you like to have the ability to go topless, you'll have to buy a chainsaw with a Z06 purchase.

Ricks right on the money.

I am also in the market. I am going with the GS, because I love the way the Z looks but don't need all the power. A little better ride with the GS also.

The Z is a terrible car for trips it only gets 27-28 mpg on the hi-way

The top doesn't come off at least its not supposed to

The a/c blows cold air on you

The cruise works pretty good also

The worse part is all that power that goes to waste just cruising down road

You can only get it in a stick shift

If you are not looking for a street legal race car Look at the base and the GS they are great cars and you will be very happy with either one

Don't tell anybody but I actually take my Z on long trips every chance I can but I am crazy

Guys forget the "if you mod the xxx it will be faster than the xxx". This is totally irrelevant to what he is asking.

Myself I want the power, BUT, if I didn't, I would get the GS, the look itself (over the conventional coupe/vert) is worth the extra money spent on tires etc.

Not sure he was considering the ZR1.

Right on the money. A Z06 will wear you and your passenger out on a trip. Unless you will be doing track days, a base with F55 or a GS with F55 will give you all the power you need for public roads, and be MUCH more comfortable on trips.

I, too, would agree with Rick. Especially if the two of you want to take nice long comfortable trips. The base coupe w. F55 suspension will be a bit less expensive than the GS with the same suspension. See which one you like to look at and ride in, then make your choice.

Welcome in advance to the Corvette owners Forum! And keep asking lots of questions. BTW, you do know that there are Forum dealers that give wonderful discounts most likely far more than your local dealers.

It sounds like from what you are going to use the car for, the obvious choice is the Grand Sport. The Z-06 is a performance car not built for comfort, especially on long runs. Wifey will not enjoy the ride or noise.

Crusin' down to Daytona(1100 miles each way) in my Z06 getting 28-29 MPG and then doing 175 MPH around the track. Oh, and my worn out body is 69 years old. The ride must not be that bad.

See my post above. Have you ever driven a Z06 on an extended trip? If not, then why do you make statements of fact that are not fact?

You get the best deal on the base coupe with 2lt for the good seats and more choices for tires.
