The dumbest argument I've read is, "what's the difference between a tinted windshield and sunglasses?" You can take the sunglasses off at night. Duhhhh!!!
Well not everyone takes their sunglasses off at night:
To those with the "old fart" type comments, there is a reason we have lived long enough to be old farts. We don't do dumb **** things like this.

The "cool factor" over common sense safety is another dumb **** response.

I just have a tinted strip going across the front windshield. I'm not sure I'd get the whole thing done, just because I don't know if it'd look good on the car.
I have mine done in 35% and the sides and rear done in 5%. I am used to it because I've had it on previous cars. It definitely cuts down on glare and also does not let nosey people that stare look at you
The car has seen some Mexico highway pulls and I can see just fine with 6k hid headlights and fogs.
I'll post up pics of my STS-V from the outside in and inside out.
Thanks for posting!
Not only do I appreciate the benefits that are mentioned, a window film might also give some extra protection against road debris and the like.
I thought it would be much more that 4 to 1 against tinting the windshield... So I figured I would tint mine and if it was obstructing or I didn't like it I would just get the razor blade out and remove it... It is not obstructing at all during the day. And at night, the driver and passenger windows are the only problem. The windshield really is not an issue. And I think it completes the look. As for now I am happy I went with the tint.
Here are some pics.
Technically it is BUT I get your point. He did ask about tinting which implies to many a dark color
No, technically it isn't:
tint (tnt)
n. 1. A shade of a color, especially a pale or delicate variation.
2. A gradation of a color made by adding white to it to lessen its saturation.
3. A slight coloration; a tinge.
clear (klîr)
adj. clear·er, clear·est
1. Free from clouds, mist, or haze: a clear day.
2. Not obscured or darkened; bright: clear daylight; a clear yellow. 3. Easily seen through; transparent: clear water.
Window Tinting Law in California
What you need to know. California Tint Law Enacted: 1999
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In California, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
◦Windshield | Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.◦Front Side Windows | Must allow more than 70% of light in.
◦Back Side Windows | Any darkness can be used.
◦Rear Window | Any darkness can be used.
C Section 26708.5 Transparent Materials
Transparent Materials
26708.5. (a) No person shall place, install, affix, or apply any transparent material upon the windshield, or side or rear windows, of any motor vehicle if the material alters the color or reduces the light transmittance of the windshield or side or rear windows, except as provided in subdivision (b), (c), or (d) of Section 26708.
(b) Tinted safety glass may be installed in a vehicle if (1) the glass complies with motor vehicle safety standards of the United States Department of Transportation for safety glazing materials, and (2) the glass is installed in a location permitted by those standards for the particular type of glass used.
Amended Sec. 2, Ch. 476, Stats. 1998. Effective January 1, 1999.

not sure of the laws in your state, but fwiw I was going to get mine done until tinter advised that inspection sticker becomes obviously discolored. Even if you have a buddy at local shop its a easy pull over for a cop
You all correct. IMHO, Its a age thing / Risk versus reward, Ive had my family cars done (50%) for many years but it does reduces visabilty at night when your in poorly lit area. Lack of clarity is the material or the instaler shrinking abilities. Theres a Uv clear that reduces 99.9UV but its clear no tint. There are few cars out there with heavy factory tinted winshields.
?? Actually a windshield is designed with a layer of film between the glass to do the opposite,, Keep the glass together when it breaks. I have broken a few of them and the gum/film inside the glass smells really good. like chewing gum. Tinting the inside is actually safer as the small glass shards do fall inside our car/ eyes if you do shatter it.
Soory to invade the C6 Section from a C3 guy but theres not much tint talk going on over there and thats the business Im in so I speak from personal experience. The gentelman that spoke of 35 % on the winshield. IMHO 35% is over any reasonable line, And yea Im an old fart.
