Out of the people who tinted their windows, how many tinted their windshield as well?
I have my 3 windows tinted dark. And was debating doing the windshield.
Advantages: 1. Less sun hitting the interior 2. Looks better. I think the dark windows looks off with the clear windshield. A light film would contrast less.
Disadvantages: 1. Less visibility, especially at night. 2. Tickets.
IMO , This is one if the dumbest things you can do not to mention totally illegal. It's bad enough when you tint darker than legal on the side and back, but please come to your senses and see how dumb this is. Off soap box.
I have opinions about people who tint the windshield but I'll leave that off the table. I will say it's unsafe to do so because if you are in an accident the winshield is designed to break apart like we have all seen but if it's tinted it will not break apart and can either hit you as a whole and injure you and / or you could be stuck in the car and not be able to get out because the glass will be as a whole, not little pieces falling apart.
i tinted the top 12'' of my windsheild to 18% thats perfect. its just above my line of sight. blocks light nicley and looks good with the rest of the windows.
So far some uninformed people have been posting as a reply to the OP. I have tinted my STS-V and Slade windshield. Ask your installer if they use the new clear UV tint. It looks blue off the roll but when applied is clear. I will call my guy to find out who makes it. It is very expensive though. I think I paid almost $400 just for the windshield. the only way you know its there is if you have polarized sunglasses.
I did try a light standard 3m tint first but all it did was make everything blurry. The clear UV stuff is clear as a can be and keeps the car cool, especially a black car with black interior and a black dash. A world of difference.
Oh and I tinted the entire windshield. If you want to call it tint.

Installing clear UV film is not tinting. How are the "don't tint the windshield because it is both illegal and dangerous (and it is illegal because it is dangerous)" corwd "uninformed"?

Just my .02
?? Actually a windshield is designed with a layer of film between the glass to do the opposite,, Keep the glass together when it breaks. I have broken a few of them and the gum/film inside the glass smells really good. like chewing gum. Tinting the inside is actually safer as the small glass shards do fall inside our car/ eyes if you do shatter it.

Technically it is BUT I get your point. He did ask about tinting which implies to many a dark color

Experience a couple of summers in South Florida and that will change your mind. I do not have the windshield tinted, but my front tint strip is lower than the ASI line marked on the windshield by at least double..
I live in southern Arizona with high heat and relentless sunshine....window tinting is virtually mandatory. You don't, however, tint your windshield!

that tinting the windshield is a dumb idea. That said I'm not so sure there's any legal restrictions on tinting the rear hatch glass (at least where I live).
I have a 50% tint on my front windshield. It helps with the glare from the road but doesn't impair my ability to see ANYTHING. Granted, most posters on here are somewhat "up there in age" and I can understand their unwillingness to have it done. Tinted windshields and glaucoma glasses don't mix . I also don't wear sunglasses in the car because they seem to impair me more than a lightly tinted windshield.
Mine is tinted at 80% with a 18% 12" glarestrip. I don't get how people say its that dumb. I can see just as good out the windshield in the morning, afternoon, evening and night as well as before without tint. It keeps the car cooler and looks great as well even with just the glarestrip.

I too had the "MOSTLY CLEAR" UV film put on, and it does have a very slight tint of 85 or 90 I think, but you can't really notice it as being a tint. Anyway, its SPF 60 (blocks 60% of UV).
