Ordered a 2012 from Fitchner Chevrolet 6 weeks ago. Was to be produced week of October 10. Just got notice from Ken that factory has been closed for past 2 weeks. GM did not notify any dealers of this closure and now he is worried it may affect the $3,000 loyalty rebate that is to expire 10/31.
Anybody know if factory closed due to slow sales or was it for other problems ?
The factory has been closing sporadically over the last couple of years due to very poor Corvette sales. This has become normal now. Its usually for a week, I have never heard of two weeks though.
C'mon, guys, lighten up a little - just having a little fun here. It just seemed like he was entitled to have his name spelled correctly. No offense intended.

Coincidence? Or is GM trying to minimize their rebate payout?
[QUOTE=ohfiver;1578966747]Yep factory closed 2-wks. my build week was 10/10 now at 3000 and holding![/QUO MY BUILD DATE IS SET FOR OCT 31? MAY BE LONGER
The only FAIR thing to do would be to add the down time to the 31st so customers that ordered early enough don't get screwed out of the incentive because of corporate cost cutting.......

Not only that, but if these temporary closures are going to continue then they should set up the incentives something like, "Take delivery out of dealer stock by (date) OR place a factory order by (date). and take delivery within XX days after the vehicle is delivered to the dealer." Let's face it, once the order has been placed, there's nothing the dealer or customer can do to affect the build or delivery date.
What Mike sez would be fair. And in fairness to GM, I doubt they're trying to minimize payouts on stated incentives by closing down the factory. It's just the luck of the draw and hopefully the system will honor the incentives of those who qualify with their orders. At least I sure hope they do.
i am in the same boat as the OP from the same dealer but mine is a centennial edition Z06. my status is 3300 and my TPW was supposed to be the 24th. an inside source tells me that mine will likely be in trim by the 27th. unfortunatly that is the last work day of that week (thursday) this means mine wont come off the line intil 11/01 it takes 20 hours to build a vette. that is 2 days working 10 hour shifts.
if your at status 3000 i dont know how yours would be done in time. but for our sakes i hope i am wrong!
ken says the system still shows TPW for me of the 24th.
the rumor is that the assy plant shut down for 2 weeks to run some C7 units down the assy line as a trial run.
nothing to confirm that rumor however.
it would seem that the plant is being relitivly un concerned with the status of the cars and when they get built. the incentive was offered to move already built units on dealers lots, not intended to be an incentive to order a new car.
with that said, its anyones guess as to wether or not our cars will be built on time or not. and i sure hope my source is wrong and that production will continue as scheduled.
however it is obvious you and i are not the only ones who's cars are in the build cycle.
i do know that sold orders get some kind of priority on the line and i can only hope that with that in mind the ONLY units rolling off the line over the next could weeks would be the sold orders first, then the unsold units.
Surely the plant closing has to do with the back hatch hinges being recalled on late 2011 and early 2012 Vette Coupes. Seems there was a problem with hinge strength that may cause hatches to open in event of a wreck. No problems yet, but some test failure.
I would think the plant has to shut down to change all the Vettes on quality hold at the factory, as well as to change out the current hinges on the manufacturing line.
Loss of rebate? I would hope not, especially since it was not your fault, but Chevy's. (or a supplier to Chevy).
Just be glad they caught the fix before your delivery.
(I've got to take my 2012 GS Coupe in for the recall repair).

incorrect.. i already asked about that. no need to shut the line down over hinges, its a simple recall only affects safety in other country (i forget which) that has a higher safety standard than does the US.
and they already have the new hinges, simple part swap
I was told by Kerbeck Chevrolet that the plant would be closed for two months beginning the end of December 2011..Is ths possible. Anyone have any additional info? Seems like a long time!

Well they are going to spend 130 million on upgrades so I guess it is possible. Maybe Talon 90 will jump in here with some info.
