Bass,
Sorry to say but all corvettes manufactured are SOLD orders. They do not build them on speculation, at least that is my understanding, but I could be wrong.

if your at status 3000 i dont know how yours would be done in time. but for our sakes i hope i am wrong!
ken says the system still shows TPW for me of the 24th.

the rumor is that the assy plant shut down for 2 weeks to run some C7 units down the assy line as a trial run.
nothing to confirm that rumor however.
it would seem that the plant is being relitivly un concerned with the status of the cars and when they get built. the incentive was offered to move already built units on dealers lots, not intended to be an incentive to order a new car.
with that said, its anyones guess as to wether or not our cars will be built on time or not. and i sure hope my source is wrong and that production will continue as scheduled.
however it is obvious you and i are not the only ones who's cars are in the build cycle.
i do know that sold orders get some kind of priority on the line and i can only hope that with that in mind the ONLY units rolling off the line over the next could weeks would be the sold orders first, then the unsold units.
You may want to consider firing your information sources, whoever they are. There's ZERO chance that the reason for closing the plant is "to run some C7 units down the assy line as a trial run". The C7 is far from being production ready; we already know for a fact that the earliest the C7 will be ready is for the 2014 model year. That means that at this point there's nothing to even send down the line. In addition, orders that are pre-sold to customers do not get priority over orders for dealer stock. Perhaps they should, but they don't.

my source was speculating, but i heard it from 2 different people. i do not believe they were running fully built units, perhaps testing the C7 frame on the dollies that carry the cars?
who knows!
and who really cares?
whatever the reason, it's affecting the build of my car!

do you work at the plant?

My understanding is that all vehicles built at the plant are sold to the dealers prior to production. Some that the dealers order may be for their stock and some may be presold to customers. The dealer can expedite the order by telling the factory that the vehicle is a customer order.

All cars built are sold orders. However, GM can distinguish between sold to dealer and sold to customer. When there is a scheduled closure they usually put a priority on building "sold to customer" orders first. At least that is what I was told when I was in the same boat the last time I ordered from the factory.

They have been closing the plant for weeks at a time for a long time now. The reasons for closing have varied from low production to retooling the lines. Last year they closed down sometime in November and did not reopen until 1/3, give or take a couple days.

I always do my best to locate the car with the specs I want from dealer inventory somewhere. Dealing with the factory delays is too frustrating.

The rebates usually have a clause that states you must take delivery on or before a certain date. However, I believe GM will end up honoring any rebates offered at the time you placed the order for your car.

In a few months they will be stacked up on dealers lots heavily discounted and ready to go. That may be a smarter way to buy a new 2012.

Sorry gotta go with GM on this one. The rebates say "take delivery from inventory by X date" for a purpose. The whole purpose is to MOVE on the ground Inventory. With a custom order you take your chances...as the rebate is/was not intended for you. Odds ar ethe rebate will be extended...but it is a very up front 'gamble".

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but if the plant is shut down, then they aren't making any and there won't be any stacking...

I'm at 3000 and have no idea when my car will be built or delivered.

Leave it to GM to offer an incentive to sell some cars and then make it impossible to qualify for the incentive when cars are delivered. That sales incentive program won't cost them anything but will net them a few more sales. Brilliant.

True that every Corvette that GM builds is sold, but they are not necessarily pre-sold to a retail customer. The dealers order cars each week that are both for their stock and to fill retail customer's special orders.

Last month Bowling Green built 1,260 2012 Corvettes while the dealers sold 1,147 Corvettes. Of those 1,147, some were to fill special ordered 2012's, but some of those sales were left over 2011 models and some were 2012 models that the dealers had ordered for stock(not pre-sold to a retail customer).

There are allot of us sitting at code 3000 since the shut down. Has anyone contacted GM customer service to see what they are saying about the situation?

I have to believe you are at 3300... I placed my order on Sept 14 and was assigned a TPW of Oct 24th. I have been at 3300 for two weeks. My source told me my car will be in trim on the 27th and roll off on the 31st..... 15 cars in front of bass mechanics.

Sorry, it did not say take delivery from inventory. It was an incentive to existing Corvette owners and the intent was to sell more cars. If GM intended it to apply only to dealer inventory, they should have stated this in the offer - they have enough attorneys on staff to know how to write an offer.

All it said was had to take delivery by 10/31. On 9-12-11, the dealer, Ken Fichtner, sent me an e-mail stating "I did successfully validate your Certificate for $3,000".

If GM does not honor the additional $3,000, I simply will not complete the purchase and will never buy another. This is after having purchased a new Corvette every few years since 1978.
