For use in my garage or driveway, a standard steel jack from Harbor Freight. It's been working perfectly for the past 6-7 years. I do carry an aluminum screw jack from a late 90's Mercedes E class in my Z06 in case I do need to jack the car up while out driving. It drops to 2.8" and only weighs 3 pounds.

I use a Harbor Freight aluminum low profile racing floor jack and BMW lifting puck for changing to track tires, and a small AC/Delco scissor jack I take along to the track. Nice thing about the small one, is uses the same 3/4"/19mm socket as the wheel lugs, and may be all you really need. With a 3/4" drive long ratchet and hi torque cordless drill, can change out all 4 wheels in a hurry.

I bought one of these from Harbor Freight.

http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...ump-68052.html

This thing is strong enough to lift my 2500HD pickup not to mention my boat trailer with the boat on it! Even so, it is low profile enough to lift my vette with a lifting puck in place. I've had it for almost a year with no issues!

I've got a 2 ton, low-profile aluminum jack from Costco that was on sale for $99 several years ago. Brand is "LARIN" & p/n is AJLD-2.....has worked perfectly for the past 6 years. Just a word of caution.....for oil changes, I use ramps up front, jack the rear & then use jackstands in the rear. I'm sure you've heard it before, but never work under any vehicle with the jack only...always us jackstands. Harbor Freight has a good selection that go on sale from time to time....check the car mags for their coupons. The Harbor Freight low profile jack is also a good unit.

Where do you jack the rear of the car?

I've been using a Milwaukee Hydraulic Model 20 for the past 15 years or so. Still made in the USA. Low enough for the C6 and plenty safe, with a broad lifting pad. Much more expensive than a no-name Harbor Freight jack, but certainly economical in that it is well worth it to me.

IMHO the hands-down best floor jack for a C6 is the Omega/Blackhawk model 29023. It's one of the few jacks (possibly the ONLY one) that can be fitted with a cross-beam and reach under the nose all the way to the front lifting points without damaging the nose or air dam. It's a heavy sucker (125 lbs) and not made for small spaces. It's also not cheap ($299 plus freight). You decide:

My el cheapo Harbor Freight jack will reach to the front lift points, while using a home made cross-beam(2X6 with 1.4" pads). My problem is that on my Z06 I have the front splitter, that the base C6 does not have, that is fairly close to the ground, and I can't move the jack handle enough vertically, to jack the car up. So, I have to drive the car up on home made ramps(stacked 2X12's) so that I can operate the jack handle.

Is your C6 a base or a GS/Z06/ZR1?

Not sure what your definition of "economical" is... but this I what I have in the garage.

I bought a Kobalt 2.25 ton floor jack today looks much the same as some of the above. Where do I get pucks?

Base coupe ... As far as economical, the Snap On is overkill ... I expect to use 2-3 times/yr The Harbor Freight aluminum (Pittsburgh Racing) jacks that others have mentioned look good

A ton of vendors sell them. Look on the forum or even ebay, or just make a run to Academy sporting goods and buy a few standard hockey pucks. Then put a 3/4 eye bolt through each one.

The Blackhawk is an awesome floor jack. I bought one from amazon with free shipping. It is heavy, but very effective.

If you are looking for something light and portable then the ac delco steel scissor jack from O'Reilly Auto Parts is the way to go. It has a flat lift point which is ideal for a jacking puck and can be raised using a 3/4 inch drive. If you are creative you can setup a battery powered driver with the 3/4 inch rachet for easy lifting one corner at a time.

I bought mine at Harbour Freight for 69.99 on sale a few years ago. It works great for my needs. I use it on all my cars, including my Tahoe. 2 ton capacity, 2.75" minimum to 19.5" maximum jacking heights. Item number 67022.

I was installing new OEM splash guards and removing the old aftermarket guards...

I noticed your doors/trunk are opened...is opening the hood/doors/trunk when raising on a lift and or raising with a floor jack recommended? Or is that just extra precaution to avoid potential problems?(sorry for hijack)

I have a regular floor jack that I already had before I got my C6.
Corvettemods sells a puck that replaces the cradle on any floor jack. The top of the puck fits into the slot in the frame
