"Mirror" button on rearview mirror?

"Mirror" button on rearview mirror?
Ok, so I feel like a bit of a tool for asking this but I have always wondered. My car's an 05 if that makes a diff. When I start it, the little green button on the rearview mirror lights up, but it goes out if I press the "mirror" button to the right of it.

According to the 2005 owners manual (found in FAQ section)
by pushing this button, you are turning off the auto dimming feature.
Automatic Dimming Rearview Mirror Operation
The mirror automatically changes to reduce glare from
headlamps behind you. A time delay feature prevents
rapid changing from the day to night positions while
driving under lights and through traffic.
P(On/Off): The automatic dimming feature is
automatically activated when the vehicle is started. The
automatic dimming feature is turned on or off by
pressing this button located on the lower part of the
mirror. Press and hold the button for up to three seconds
to turn this feature on or off.
T (Indicator Light): This light will turn on when the automatic
dimming feature is active.
