Here in the State of Chaos (State of CA. as you know it) you will get ticketed especially by the CHP and when you do they will come around and look for the front plate on your Corvette which is another fine.
I got a ticket at 5:30 AM driving leisurely in the slow lane the first time.
The CHP officer put a meter on my side tinted window and said it is not to spec.
Here in the Republik of CA you cannot put any kind of material or covering on your side windows as it is in violation of the kalifornia Vehicle Code. If you do you will get cited and still have to pay for the fine even if you do choose to remove the tint.
I paid $200 for all 3 windows in 2005 with the rear being 95% limo tint that only let in 5% light but that's legal and that tint is still holding up perfect to this date. There is no peeling or anything like that. It's a great job.
The side windows I got cited for twice and they are not 95% limo tint but of a lighter shade.
I don't know what the prices are today here but I am sure in any other state of the union it will cost alot less in the Republik of KA as we pay more for less here for everything.
"We gotta to get outta of this place even if it's the last thing we ever do".
On the front window you may add a 6 inch strip from the top of the glass to the bottom of the strip.Cal. law.

I call this the "cost of doing business" or "pay-to-play".. Whatever cute little saying works for you. Just strip it off. Have it signed off. Then re-tint it exactly as it was. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Actually i'm glad I lasted as long as I did without getting pulled over about 5 years (left it on) then recently when I finally had california tint put on

Ya I just keep breaking the law I guess.. It's not a moving violation so insurance doesn't get affected and you get no points on your DMV record..

I was told differently but the CHP was probably BSing me or he doesn't know the law himself. Told me you can leave tint on just pay fine but the second time it goes on your record.
But I would rather give them no reason to pull me over as it is an inconvience.
Too bad we don't get to vote on their budgets/hiring
Thanks for this thread and the quality post in it. I had the windows done on my C6 a few months ago. The tint installed gave me a squeegee and told me to keep pushing the tint against the dots until it dried.
I got tired of messing with it and have some crappy looking white spots.
Because of this thread I started to call around today and found an installer that knew about the vinyl trick and would do the work.
100.00 to strip off old tint
200.00 to install new vinyl and quality tint.
Hes a vinyl installer that does vehicle wraps, Im trying to find some pics of black vettes with black racing stripes on them to see if thats a direction I want to go.
Is this a joke? You can pull the old tint off in seconds yourself. Any glue residue left behind is removed during the cleaning process for the new tint anyways.

Wish we could have machine guns here in CA! Don't even get me started on the gun laws here.. tint is nothing compared. Talk to me about 10 round magazines and bullet buttons.
I had mine done and the dots show along the top...It is bugging me to death.
Go back to the tint shop and have them do a cut double layer just over the dot section. You really need someone experienced with doing the vette back window properly.
Just for reference, I had my vert done this week for $100. It was a juggling act for him to get to the rear window. It came out perfect. He used global industries tint and has 25 years experience. I thought that was reasonable. I've seen several cars he's done years ago and they are still flawless.
