Default Which Gas

My Vette came with a full tank aand I need to fill it. I was wondering what you all recommend? I've used Hess for years without any issues not sure if I want to use it in this car!

91 and up octane works for me half the time the brand at the station is different than the oil tanker which brings the gas to the station go figure.

Default use what they got ....

Since all cars nowaday are 50 state emissions legal, regular unleaded should work just fine. the only time you'll need a higher octane is if you run full tilt boogie around town and down the interstate all the time. luggin' it around town and commuting don't really require much more since you don't get seriuos knocking until full load. for those who think higher octane increases their cars longevity, no ... they just jump on the pedal a little more than most of us and wear it out faster. imho.

From the Manual, yeah I read the manual(lol):
Fuel
Use of the recommended fuel is
an important part of the proper
maintenance of this vehicle. To help
keep the engine clean and maintain
optimum vehicle performance, we
recommend the use of gasoline
advertised as TOP TIER Detergent
Gasoline.
Look for the TOP TIER label on the
fuel pump to ensure gasoline meets
enhanced detergency standards
developed by auto companies. A list
of marketers providing TOP TIER
Detergent Gasoline can be found at
www.toptiergas.com.
The eighth digit of the Vehicle
Identification Number (VIN) shows
the code letter or number that
identifies the vehicle's engine.
The VIN is at the top left of the
instrument panel. See Vehicle
Identification Number (VIN) on
page 12‑1.
Recommended Fuel
If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine
(VIN Code W), use premium
unleaded gasoline with a posted
octane rating of 91 or higher.
You can also use regular unleaded
gasoline rated at 87 octane or
higher, but the vehicle's acceleration
could be slightly reduced, and a
slight audible knocking noise,
commonly referred to as spark
knock, might be heard. If the octane
is less than 87, a heavy knocking
noise might be heard when driving.
If this occurs, use a gasoline rated
at 87 octane or higher as soon as
possible. Otherwise, you could
damage the engine. If heavy
knocking is heard when using
gasoline rated at 87 octane or
higher, the engine needs service.
If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine
(VIN Code T) or the 7.0L V8 engine
(VIN Code E), use premium
unleaded gasoline with a posted
octane rating of 91 or higher.

The car is engineered for higher octane and not running it will increase the probabality of early engine damage. Why buy a performance car that is designed around higher octane and run low octane?

Don't listen to all the top tier BS...I lived in FL 40+ yrs and used Hess 93 octane in all my vettes (Callaway included) with NO problems. Wish I could get Hess now that I've moved to Central TX but none is available. Gas is gas except for additives. I've also enjoyed the $avings using Hess from the "top tier" brands....

I don't play into that "top tier" game either.

I do, however, only use 93 octane

I buy gas from whatever gas station is closest / most convenient at the time I need gas, whether it be Hess, Mobil, Walmart, 7-11, etc

I don't care what brand it is ...

I only run top tier gasoline as GM recommends. The different oil companies use different additives, some being better then others, but all must meet the minimum Government standards. Top Tier additives is a cut above the minimum required. GM used to recommend not using any gas additives, just to use a top tier gas, but they have now changed that. Chevron Techron is recommended(repackaged under the GM label) since all the gas tank sensor problems they had with the C5's. Those of us with that had C5's know that using Techron worked.

In addition to running nothing but top teir gas in my Z06, I also run a 20oz bottle of Techron through the tank once a year(and also my supercharged Mercedes).

I now exclusively use Shell V Power which here is 91 Octane sans ethanol. I swear that I get better mileage than the ethanol mixed gas.

I've used unleaded regular in my 1980 C3 L48 here in California since i got it 32 years ago. it still pases smog bi-annually, still meeting today's regulated emission standards. i still run the original Rochester carb with 64k miles on the car. no knocks or pings. then again .... it's kind of hard to hear it amongst the rattle of the windows anyway. i just ran my first dealer tank out last week (2012 GA Vert) and filled it up with regular unleaded 87 here. there is virtually no difference, but at 4k rpm it's a whole lotta fun!
