Check out the Top Tier Gas site. I had my Cadillac towed in and the dealership gave me a copy of their GM Advisory that they recommended Top Tier. I have not had a problem since in any of my GM products.

Your buck, spend it as you see fit---you too Glenn.

My Z06 has an 18 gallon tank. If it is completely empty, the difference between 87 and 93 octane is $3.60. I spend the extra $3.60 on my 50k auto. Think about it.

You will, as 100% gasoline has greater BTU then gasoline diluted with ethanol. And if the ethanol in the gasoline has absorbed any water(very likely) then it will have even less BTU. On the highway, I see about 1.5 MPG better gas mileage when I run 100% gasoline vs E10.

Shell V-Power here. It's everywhere you go. I've never heard of Hess gasoline in 50 years of driving.

So Shell doesn't have ethanol?

My Dad calls me Mad Max but I look nothing like you!

Well I guess that you have never been to the Northeast. Leon Hess founded the company back in the 30's. At one point Hess owned the NY Jets football team. They are not a small company by any stretch.

Enough about history. I use Hess premium in my Mercedes with no problems but I only use Shell premium in my vette.

Truth is, most gas is tranfered on the same pipeline to the region, but name brands put in their own additive packages, before delivery to the pumps. Name brands usually have better quality control and inspections for moisture content. If the owners manual says 91 or better octane, what you're wanting. While getting off topic, my sister was buying gas at the corner coffee stop, and not running good in the winter. Told her water, and buy gas elsewhere. She did, and all's well now.

I will only run Chevron 91 (CA has nothing higher) in my Z06 unless I can't find one then I'll use the 76 Gas Station. From my understanding the difference in gas is the additives of course, how "fresh" it is, and condition of the storage containers. I also won't use a pump that is all 3 grades in one, has to have a separate pump for each grade dont want ANY 87 getting in my car

Chevron Techron is recommended(repackaged under the GM label) since all the gas tank sensor problems they had with the C5's. Those of us with that had C5's know that using Techron worked.

In addition to running nothing but top tier gas in my Z06, I also run a 20oz bottle of Techron through the tank once a year(and also my supercharged Mercedes).
Gas is gas other than for additives and chevron uses Techron in theirs. For that reason I have been using Chevron on all my cars for the last 25 years, never had a fuel related problem in any of them. The valves and the valve guides on my 140K mile Volvo look like brand new, no deposits whatsoever. Chevron is also on the GM's top tier list.

Interesting, no Sunoco or BP (the 2 closest to me) on the list.....I use Sunoco because the company "supposedly" doesn't import from the Middle East. Didn't know about the Top Tier thing, I might have to rethink where I get my gas, also didn't know Shell V doesn't have Ethanol in it, great info on this forum!
