You need to check your disc as I suspect it says either East or West on it. First, are you sure you don't have the second one in your DVD case? Second, you were not supposed to get just one, but two discs. Some unscrupulos dealers have been known to confiscate the other disc and keep them or sell them. Would you be willing to post the part number and version as displayed on the label of the disc?
I agree, I bought the Version 7 (2011) from GMNAVUPDATE, (I think that was the site), it came with 2 discs, East and West.
Do not attempt to update a 2005 with a 2012 navigation data disc. There are some questions about it currently, and you would be better safe than sorry if you have a 2005.
Agree again, you might be better off buying the 2011 (V7) discs, probably cheaper, no problem with that "evil" (at least for earlier C6's) software upgrade and probably not much change from 2011 to 2012.
I have had some occasional disc read errors with the single disc Version 2012 maps that I did not get with the two disc prior version 7. The new compression may make that more likely because if I put the old back up disc from version 7 two disc set in I do not get the disc read errors.
One small data point:
We got the 2009 discs with our 2009, then upgraded each year (we drive all over the country and want the latest maps) and have been using the 2012 single disc since it came out late last year. We've put about 9,000 miles on the car since the new single disc, no problems.
For less than the price of the updates I purchased a very nice Garmin unit that gives me lifetime updates, traffic alerts, has bluetooth interface with my cell phone and allows me to use it in multiple vehicles. I have been very happy with the unit. To update I just plug it into the computer and let it go. It has been very accurate and I really like the way it pops up pictures of some of the major turns on the highway to show you which lane to be in. The Garmin seems to be a good bang for the buck.
Between aftermarket units and smartphones, the need for the automaker optional system is almost nil . . . but it's sure nice to have it built in like that.
They are a big rip-off though . . . even Honda charges two grand for the option. The updates are another slap in the face . . . but it's sure nice to have it built in like that.
I'll probably not get one in mine, unless it's already in a car I want and everything else is perfect.
ill throw a wrench into this...i bought a very early build 2012 and it came with 2 discs.
Not really a wrench. It is very common for the early part of a model year build for the cars to get the newest navigation data disc available. The nav disc update doesn't typically become available until September or October. If you check your disc label it should indicate version 7.
Put that $200.00 on a new head unit, Kenwood or Pioneer. If you shop around you might be able to find a 2011 unit for a good price. While you're at it add a backup camera.
I installed the Pioneer AVIC X930BT with backup camera. Now my iphone 4, bluetooth connects to my radio every time I enter my vehicle. I have hands free calling, ipod connection for music/video out, SD slot, DVD playback, GPS or you can play your music via the bluetooth connection. I kept my Bose, steering wheel controls and onstar but gave up XM, since my radio has the Pandora app interface built in.

I second buying a different unit. The sony's use tomtom which seems to have some of the best routing available. I have a pioneer and it has great media features but is pretty poor on the routing front.

The version that is in use with the Corvette is also compatible with the following other GM models:
2005-2010 Cadillac STS
2005-2011 Corvette
2005-2008 Grand Prix
2005-2009 Saab 9-5
2005 Olds Bravada
This does prove how old the Corvette's system is though. The other 4 cars are not even built anymore or are being replaced very soon (if they still build the STS).
I just upgrade the NAV before I take real long trips. I'm not talking about a couple thousand miles, more like across country.
I agree with looking on-line for the best price, then you can put up the old one for sale on a certain auction site.
There are a lot of other cheaper navigation options but driving with a cell phone stuck on top of the dash looks like Mr. Cheapo in a $50-100k car. I barely use my NAV for actual directions anyway. I use an old thing called a map that I look at the night before the trip. I found NAVs to be unreliable at times, even a Garmin. My Corvette's NAV wanted me to drive an extra 60 miles (about 45 min) on our trip back from Colorado. Apparently it doesn't know about US6, at least not until I drove down it for 5 miles. It then woke up and probably said "hey that is a good idea".
I have the 2012 disk and it has been flawless for me thus far. (Late 2006 model year Corvette)
Same here. 8.0 dup from a late 2012 in my 09. I think this will be the last disk b/c I don't think they will change disks for 2013 and this God awful system will be replaced in the C7 and other GM models.
