I have a 07 with mac and FLAG wants $200 to update it. Is it worth it. Has ant thing improved or will it just have new roads?
Curious George
It is a navigation data disc. It will have any updates to roads that they (Teleatlas) have done as well as updates to points of interest (hotels, gas stations, restaurants, etc.) If neither of these things are important to you, pass on it.
To help understand the significance of the updates, in 2008 they went to a two disc set - effectively doubling the data points. If you don't travel with the car and find that everything you search for is there on your current disc, you don't seem to need it.
From what I've heard, be VERY careful with the 2012 upgrade, there's some kind of software upgrade included that disabled some of the radio functions on earlier (2005-?) C6's, something to do with MP3 playback, do a search. I upgraded to the 2011 Version (V7 I think) and no problems.
The latest 2012 map update for his car has now reverted to one disc that covers both East and West.
If you check the GM nav disc site they usually have in on sale for Father's Day and some other holidays like Xmas for $149.
When I buy the update I usually put the prior year up for sale and it ends up running me around $10-20 net cost to update.
Yes, I know. I was just trying to illustrate my point that significant things can change in an update. In 2012 they changed the method that they use to compress the data and it allowed for a return to a single disc solution. 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 are all two DVD sets, East and West. In 2012 as you noted they returned to a single disc.
I just upgraded from V.1 to V.6 for $80. If you stay a couple years behind you can get them cheap.
This.
Here is the part number breakdown for those keeping score:
2005 version 1.0 p/n 10381886 one dvd.
2006 version 2.0 p/n 15779679 one dvd.
2007 version 3.0 p/n 15932106 one dvd.
2008 version 4.0 p/n 25852830 two dvd's.
2009 version 5.0 p/n 25976806 two dvd's.
2010 version 6.0 p/n 20861474 two dvd’s.
2011 version 7.0 p/n 20980238 two dvs's.
2012 version 8.0 p/n 22820294 one dvd.
The version that is in use with the Corvette is also compatible with the following other GM models:
2005-2010 Cadillac STS
2005-2011 Corvette
2005-2008 Grand Prix
2005-2009 Saab 9-5
2005 Olds Bravada

I have had some occasional disc read errors with the single disc Version 2012 maps that I did not get with the two disc prior version 7. The new compression may make that more likely because if I put the old back up disc from version 7 two disc set in I do not get the disc read errors.

Do not attempt to update a 2005 with a 2012 navigation data disc. There are some questions about it currently, and you would be better safe than sorry if you have a 2005.
$85 for a Garmin 40LM that has FREE lifetime map updates, four times a year. That leaves $115 to spend on something you really need, like a padded leather center console lid.
I bought a brand new 2011 and have the one (1) disk set.
You need to check your disc as I suspect it says either East or West on it. First, are you sure you don't have the second one in your DVD case? Second, you were not supposed to get just one, but two discs. Some unscrupulos dealers have been known to confiscate the other disc and keep them or sell them. Would you be willing to post the part number and version as displayed on the label of the disc?
