Default Another Toy?

There is no reason for me to be looking for another car, but I saw something I liked the other day and may be interested in adding to my C1/C6 mix: A 2006 Cadillac XLR w/12K miles in Raven Black for $28K. For those who don't know it's a two seated Caddie with a retractable hardtop & because of the very low numbers produced it should be collectable soon. The XLR is the most costly car that Cadillac ever produced (starting @ $85k for the base & to over $100k for the ‘V’). Starting in 2004 & ending in April 26th 2009 they were ‘hand built’ in a separate build area from the Corvettes @ the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. Any thoughts???? Am I

A friend of mine has one in his collection and it seems really nice. It has plenty of get up and go but sure doesn't handle like a Vette. I think it the tires, they are much narrower, but a nice car.

Very sharp cars. I would love to see Cadillac resurrect the XLR with the upcoming C7 to create a true SL-class competitor. I believe they have the capabilities.

While I think it's a great car - and I would love to get one for the daily driver, I'm not sure the low production numbers will make it very sought after by collectors... It didn't help the Allante...

Cadillac Allante:
Model Year Total Production
1987 3,363
1988 2,569
1989 3,296
1990 3,101
1991 2,500
1992 1,931
1993 4,670
TOTAL 21,430

Cadillac XLR:
2003 875
2004 3,665
2005 3,730
2006 3,203
2007 1,750
2008 1,250
2009 787
2010 188
2011 12
Total 15460

It might become a collectable car. Another one is the Chevy SSR.

My friend had one, nice car, obvioulsy no room in the trunk when the top is down. But it is a fun car to drive and certainly looks good, do not see many of them around.

My wife had a choice between her C6 vert and an XLR, she chose the Vette. I kind of wish she picked the XLR.

In looking at what's for sale on the web the price seems pretty good. Not sure with the numbers available that it will be a collectible any time soon.

I think they are cool cars. For a cruiser I say go for it.

Some say they handle pretty well but the V handles very well.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I agree they look pretty cQQL but my concern is that after owning one for a short time I'll wish I spent the extra $10-15K for the 'V' model (supercharged)... now we’re getting close to the cost of the new C7 sooooooo maybe I wait /// I don't know????

The XLR is a good-looking car IMO. Don't see many around in my area. Would be cool to own.

The base XLR is a total turd at close to 4k pounds curb weight and 320 hp.

The XLR-V is 123hp stronger at 443hp, runs dead nuts even with an LS2 vette in the 1/4 (Raced mine bone stock several times and ran consistant 12.4-12.6 depending on weather at around 112mph), has vastly superior suspension (the same magnetic ride control found in the early vettes), brakes from the Z51 corvette, stiffer swaybars, more aggressive exterior styling and dual-mode exhaust (the fuse to pull is in a hatch in the trunk to keep it open).

I had an XLR-V for my wife as a stable mate to my C6 and I really enjoyed both. The XLR never felt underpowered, even coming from my 600hp vette.

An XLR-V can be found in the high 30s and they're very nice cars. The convertible hardtop gives it unique styling. I got far more compliments in that car than I did my vette. In the two years I owned it I NEVER saw a single other XLR-V until the last week we owned it. I saw a handful of regular XLR's, but they're very rare and turn heads more than a vette will

We ended up trading it for a '12 SRT8 Charger so we'd have a "practical" baby hauler now that she's pregnant with our first. 470/470 is the way to haul a baby around

If you have any questions about the XLR or XLR-V let me know.

One thing about the XLR-V is that I've never seen the difference between what magazines recorded and what reality was vary so much in a car. Magazines had this thing typically in low 13s 1/4 mile and first time out with mine returned mid 12s in high 80 degree weather. They also said highway mpg was 14/21 and we regularly saw 27 on the highway. I'll never understand why the numbers were so skewed in reviews.

I you like the car to drive and enjoy buy it. I would not, however, purchase it thinking it's going to increase in value as a 'collector' car.

Definitely not...I've rarely seen a car take a bigger hit in depreciation than the XLR-V.

My car stickered for right at 100k in 2006 and I bought it in 2010 with 17k miles on it for 39k + TTL with clean carfax and no signs of abuse inside or out.

Great idea, undoutably why GM won't do it.

SL competitor? Probably not. Have you seen a new SL? They are true art.

My Mother has an 09 Designo SL550, and GM can't touch anything on that car when it comes to fit/finish/materials/engineering.

We'll see, but I'm leery..
