Stupid question maybe...how do you close the hatch?
I get the feeling that I'm not doing it right. I tried lowering it all the way and then just putting some force down on it and it wouldn't close all the way. So then I tried closing it like I do the doors or hood, not with a lot of force, but with some momentum so to speak. It works, the hatch closes all the way, but it doesn't feel right. It sort of stops, locks into place, and then is automatically closed the rest of the way.
Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be, but it doesn't feel right to me. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

I don't slam the rear hatch. I lower the hatch until its resting on the latching mechanism. Then, I push-down firmly and sharply on the hatch until I see and hear the pull-down mechanism engage. On rare occasion I'll push-down but the pull-down mechanism doesn't engage and pull the hatch closed. The hatch looks like it's closed but.....? When that happens I most always re-open the hatch and repeat the procedure. I like knowing that the pull-down mechanism engaged and secured the hatch.

Not a stupid question at all.
I've been thinking about this myself.
When I got my C6 about a year ago, I used to bring it down to about a foot, then drop it.
Experimented a bit, because sometimes it was high enough, and it would catch and pull itself down.
Sometimes not, and I'd have to give it a little more momentum.
Then I read on here that you should close it gently, then give it a push with your hand to make to motor engage and pull it completely down.
...but that leaves fingerprints and smudges if my hands aren't completely dry.

I use my outdated and deleted hatch handle to start the hatch moving downward. No need to touch the paint.

Leave either your driver or passenger door open just a bit when you close the hatch. Then it will close perfectly every time because you're removing the interior air pressure build up that occurs during hatch closing. Trust me....it works great and effortlessly every time.

My 08 vert has a manual latch. I found this in an older post not sure how accurate or up to date this info is.
"All C6 base coupes have the auto pull down latch.
The vert trunk and the Z06 from 2006 through about the 2008 model have a manual latch - no pull down motor."
