Good advice from all. The car is a stick so hopefully it has had the software update. Best post...Drive the hell out of it and enjoy. I intend to do just that. I bought an 05 for the mere fact that the price was very good. I'm uninterested in resale value honestly because I didn't buy it for an investment. Whenever the day comes and I decide to upgrade, the car will be paid off and I may give it to my son if he wants it. Out of curiosity does anyone know what the dealer charges to do a software update? I gather from posts that this was not a recall issue.
Do you think owners of 05's are a little biased? Think resale.
Who else can give reliable opinions on an 05 other than actual owners of one? 99% of the negative comments about the 05 (I'm guessing) come from people that never owned one and just repeat what they've read which is also all just theory and speculation about first model year. I'm sure any owner of an 05 thats had major problems will say so and I've read about very few of those. No more than with any other year actually.

I owned one for three years and 32,000 miles. And I had my share of first year problems. I still loved the car but after it was totaled by a woman running a red light and I then bought a new 09 I realized that I should have stuck with the avoid the first year of any new car. The 09 is a superior car. While i intend to by a new C7, I'm not buying the first year or the second year (even though I could), I'm waiting for the third model year this time.

The question in the original post was what issues owners of 05 Corvettes have had. We have both positive and negative replays. Just because someone reads about issues, some think that every 05 has those issues and that simply is not the case. Many of the teething problems (DBS) have been worked out. Just giving our experience with the 05.
If the question was, is newer better, the answer is yes. The purchaser needs to weight all the replays to decided the value of the newer Vettes AND take in consideration the Condition of the Vette that he or she is looking at. Personally, I've been really happy with my 05. If I were going to mod a C6, I might choose one with the upgraded rear diff., but that's not my intent.
I have an 07 Tahoe and that was a redesign year for it. I have had zero issues out of it except for replacing the u-joints and wheel sensors. No big deal there. I am not concerned about it being a first year car. I agree the newer cars are superior. No argument there but this is fine for me as a first time owner. I like the color and the interior and style.

Could you be more specific regarding "share of first year problems"? I've had my '05 for almost 3 years and no problems at all, would like to know what to look for. BTW, I'm having my Harmonic Balancer replaced this week with an ATI unit, old one was wobbling a bit (not real bad) but I figured why wait until I have a problem.

So tell us about your car, color combo, options, miles, etc......and good luck and welcome to the '05 Owners Association!
Thanks. Its LeMans Blue with Cashmere interior. Not sure what option package it is but it has XM, electronic telscoping steering wheel, memory seats, heated seats, on-Star, heads up display and Bose. I would be curious what package this is. It also has cross drilled rotars and a standard shift. It also has 38,000 miles on it. I picked it up from a local Chevy dealer for $26,800 +TT&L. I thought I got a good deal on it.

Sounds great, I'm thinking it must have navigation also, right? And if it has the drilled rotors, unless someone changed them out it probably has the Z51 package. Not sure what the option package is coded at, I'm sure someone will know. Mine was optioned out like yours and listed for almost $56,000...if you're interested, you can contact the Corvette Museum and for about $100 you can get a laminated build sheet, window sticker, the Black Book and an '05 brochure.....all the best with your new car!
As far as the rear being weak, yes, it is compared to later years. However, a friend of mine has a 2005 and has a built LS2 with a procharger making about 600 at the tires on a very conservative tune. His has 50k on it and he runs it and its still working fine with no issues.
He spins a lot so that is probably saving it. Much like the glass jaw 7.5 that came int eh 4th Gen F-Bodies.

Here's the result of a 10psi blower car and a little traction!
