On the GS the filter is located on the passenger's side firewall near the dry sump oil tank. There are three wire clips that you lift up to release the door that covers the filter. Once you release the three clips the cover will tilt down and can be removed. The filter is visible once the door is removed. Here are a couple pictures showing the filter door and a close up of the wire clips you lift up to release the door
Wow.. I cant believe all the help I got from this today. The video sealed the deal for me, I havent opened the hood yet cuz I first must get a filter but it sure seems like something i can tackle.. thanx for the help and ill keep ya posted if i have any issues... thank you.
You can use a couple of dowels or rulers to apply pressure at the rear edge of the filter, so it is pulled into the slot rather than pushed, to prevent kinking.
...Also, be sure to orient the filter with the airflow in the correct direction. IIRC, the airflow is top to bottom through the filter, so it needs to be installed with the airflow arrow pointing down.
On my dry sump z06 2012 i release the oil line next to the door to get a straight shoot at replacing filter so as not to bend the carbon filter. what I use part # ACDelco CF131C dealer part # 15861929
