I have an 08 and noticed the light 2 months ago, I was told it's onstar tracking...it's always on even if you don't subscribe, this way in case of an emergency you can use onstar and be billed later...emergencies only.

My car was produced in February of 2008 and was number 22075. It didn't have the ambiance light... until this weekend. I nosed around under the windshield trim a couple of weeks ago and found the lead for the light laying next to the wire bundle that runs across the top of the windshield. I then ordered a visor clip with the light socket. (I found one on eBay for a little less than a new one from a dealer.)
To find the lead I removed the passenger sun visor as well as both visor clips. I then pulled the top of the A pillar trim off so that I could pull the windshield trim piece down enough to see the wire bundle. The 2-wire lead was laying right there. One wire is grey and the other is grey with a black stripe.
I had to fish the lead through a hole in the front of the windshield frame. The hole is on the opposite side of the frame from where light mounts. It came out the other side of the frame very easily. I then plugged in the ambience light to the wire lead, put the light in the visor clip socket and secured the clip. I put the trim pieces back, installed the sun visor and now I too have the ambience light even though my car was built after the cut off date.
Thanks to MPUZACH for paying it forward and providing the blue LED.
Some have asked if this can be retrofitted to an newer car. In my case yes, although at this point we don't know how new. Mine could have been the first that didn't have the light installed at the factory so it got the light lead whereas no other did. Someone with a car produced later than mine should take a look sometime.
Warning light can have two possible meanings. 1) blinker fluid is low or 2) muffler bearings need service. Recommend seek dealer assistance ASAP.
My tech II stated that it was indeed low blinker fluid
Talked to the stealership and they said it was 4 dollars for the fluid plus the standard 400% markup for it going in a corvette.
