Default TPMS tool

Anyone know where to get the TPMS tool for resetting the tire sensors with a 2013 C6 coupe? I am needing to take one of my wheels in to have the tire replaced and will need to reset the sensor when I reinstall it. Plus, it is something that could prove handy to have for future services, too.

Unless you have to replace the tire sensor, you won't have to reset it. As long as you put the wheel back on the same side as it came off, no need to reset either.

And to answer your question, most any auto parts stores carry these.

I was told that when the tire is more than about 30' away from the vehicle it will need to be re-programmed. I am looking at this model:

I think you may have gotten either wrong or outdated info. I've had my wheels more than 30 feet from my car many times with no problems. I've never heard of anyone else that had a problem like that also.

Does that include breaking the wheel down to replace the tire? I am needing to replace the tire to repair a puncture.

I had looked at that one a while back. It does not say it is compatible with a 2013 Vette. Can anyone confirm this one does work?

I bought the VT5 off ebay. It won't work for me. I have after market tires and wheels and I can't get it to excite the sensors. It looks good on my workbench though. I have a 13 GS.

I actually just got off the phone with West Coast Corvettes and they confirmed the VT5 is the proper tool for my '13 coupe.

I just checked the manual on it which I got for my 09' and it lists the corvette 2005 - 2009 but of all the vehicles listed, none newer than 09. So it looks like this tool was probably made in 09. I really don't see why it wouldn't work for a 13 unless there's something totally different about 2013 sensors. I believe they're all 315 mhz from what I see being sold.

I talked to the company that makes the VT5. They said it should work. It's the right product for a 13. I couldn't make it work. I've tried over and over.... Oh yea. I take it back. I bought it on Amazon.

Position the tire and try holding the tool under the tread area of the tire instead of next to the valve stem. That's how I got mine to work.

Totally false.

You only need to reprogram if the tires are placed on different corners or if you're using a second set of wheels (ie like many of us do with track tires), or if you have a sensor replaced.

If you really want a reset tool, I use this one with my '13:
https://gmspecialservicetools.servic...s.aspx?id=5677

It's not unusual for them to be back-ordered, but for non-dealers it's about $60 delivered.

Yes, it does, but instead of selecting GM/Corvette 2005-2009

Select GM/HHR 2009

The HHR in 2009 used the same TPMS sensors that are in the 2010 to 2013 corvettes, so the tool will trigger the TPMS in your 2013 vet.

I've tried scanning from every direction and every angle. Front and back. Straight down on the tread. Everything. Sucker just doesn't work. I drained a 9 volt battary trying on the first tire. The car goes into the learn mode, no prob. I can't figure it out.

All TPMS tools are very sensitive to the strength of their batteries - as soon as the batteries start getting the least bit weak the ability to trigger the sensor is greatly degraded.

Also, after putting the car into the learn mode, you only have one minute to trigger the first sensor (Left Front) or the learn mode will time out.

So....make sure:
  • your tool has strong/fresh batteries

  • you trigger the first sensor within one minute of putting the car into the learn mode

Also, as Dano523 said, the Cub tool sold by Tire Rack for $20 works great on all C6 Vettes - just need to select HHR for a 2010-2013 Vette. I have that tool and have used it on a neighbor's GS, Camaro LT1, and CTS-V, which are all newer than 2009.

Here's a picture of the Cub tool's screen after triggering a GS sensor (as you can see at the top of the screen, I had selected HHR in the tool's menu:

I like the Cub tool (or any tool with a screen) very much - it allows you to do diagnostic checks of sensors. A tool like the ATEQ VT5 doesn't give you any kind of diagnostic capability.

Below is a video of doing the relearn procedure. When putting the car into the learn mode you must get a honk of the horn when you push and hold both the lock and unlock buttons on the fob - no honk, then you aren't in the learn mode.

To add, the $20 tire rack TPMS tool will also clone TPMS, and comes with rechargeable batteries (read you pay for the batteries, and the tool is thrown in for free).

If anyone was on the fence about buying one, do not wait or they will sold out.

Here is the glitch,
Cub came out with a newer TPMS tool that they are pushing instead, and does not have a 2010 to 2013 menu Update for the $20 tool (other than the update that was done on the tool to cover it in the menu selection to 2009 models).

As noted, the tool does work on 2010 to 2013 corvettes using the HHR setting, and the reason that tire rack is blowing these out is not that the tool will not work, but there is no update to the tool to included the newer car setting in the menu options instead (update the tool to 2013 cars in the menu setting that it already works on).

Simply, if there was an update to add in the newer cars to the tool menu setting that the tool already works on up to 2013, tire rack would not be discounting the tool by $70 to blow it out. So the way I see it, the discount on the tool by $70 buys a lot of labels that you can stick on the tool to cross reference cars to setting that the tool already has, to select the correct tool setting out of the old setting to work with the newer car TPMS sensors.

Again, the tool will reset the TPMS system, allows you to learn TPMS sensors, and even clone TPMS sensors up to 2013 models , all for the price of just paying for the rechargeable batteries that comes with the tool alone. Even at the full price of what the tool used to be, all the other tools in that price range are only reset tools alone.

So the only question comes down to, if you have a 2005 to 2013 corvette, why have you not bought the $20 tool yet???

I took my wheels to a shop to have the tires replaced. The shop was 20 miles away and no issues with the sensors. (I did mark the wheels RF/LF RR/LR so they would go back in the same location )

I just received the CUB Pro-101 unit from Tire Rack. It has a nice grey plastic hard shell case and a t-handle tool that looks like a philips screw driver that I have no idea what that is needed for. Also included are 6 rechargable batteries. Problem is, I have no clue how to open the unit to install the batteries. The users manual only says you need to charge the batteries before use, but gives no clue on how to get them inside the damn unit. LoL Anyone have any idea on how to install the batteries? The unit I have is yellow with a black face and there are no screws or grooves in it to aide in opening. On the back there is a round indentation like you would see in a battery cover lid that you use with pressure from your finger to slide open, but the case does not seem to have anything to slide. The yellow case is definitely two pieces, but they look molded together with a seam that does not want to come apart...

Ideas?

Nevermind: I see now that the yellow shell is just a rubber cover that you have to remove to get to the screws on the back...guess you need to be smarter than the batteries, huh?
