I am a new C6 Vette owner and I am experiencing problems with my driver side door. I put a brand new switch on there (After reading other forums) and the door still will not open at times. Could it be something else? Should I try something else? I am really trying to avoid going to the overpriced dealership. I am trying to find a good mechanic that I can trust with my baby. But any suggestions are welcomed from the Vette crew.
so I understand this correctly, when you're inside the car it won't release the door?...if you have someone on the outside can they let you out....if so, then it almost has to be the interior switch....and you have just replaced that?
I appologize if I did not explain completely, but there is a new battery in the keyfob, and I do not have problems exiting the car, just getting into the car. So when I am having problems getting in, I have to use the quick release in my trunk to open the door. This issue is hit or miss though. And the switch is brand new as well.
Couple of obvious questions, is the car turned off when you are trying to get out or is it still running? Have you tried to push the little unlock button on the door before getting out? Is the car in accessory mode when your trying to get out?
When the switch is eliminated, you put a new one on, and the problem still exists you are left with technical diagnosis. It could be the Door Module, inside the door, or the latch mechanism, inside the B-post. A dealer visit is in your future, or a competent independent mechanic, but someone will have to perform a proper diagnostic procedure. The problem there is, if the malfunction can't be reproduced when they are looking at it, there is pretty much nothing they can do. So, you might be stuck waiting for the problem to get worse and more consistent.

Hi there,
Yes, the car is turned off. I don't have problems getting out, just getting in. For instanse, I ran into the grocery store, (was in there for about 20 min.) came out, and tried to open my door. I even pressed the unlock button on the key fob to make sure the door was unlocked, and the door did not open. The window would ajar, as if it was going to open, but it wouldn't open. Then I used that release thing in the trunk. I also stopped and went into 7-11 and came out, and boom... my door opened. So it's like hit or miss. Not sure why or whats causing that.

Agreed. I am currently shopping around now for a mechanic. I have recieved a couple of recommendations, so I will check them out. If that does not work, I will be going to the dealership as suggested and I'm sure I will have to leave my car maybe overnight or something.

In looking for a mechanic, Vette or otherwise, check with your local Vette Club for whom they would recommend.
I found mine at of all places the local Chevy Dealer. After years of encouraging him to go out on his own he did recently. Only problem now is his realizing his worth and getting too damn expensive for me... BUT he's very good.
if the passenger door opens correctly from the outside of the car you may want to try using the passenger door switch on the driver door to make sure your new switch is not bad.
Any chance the car's battery was recently replaced?

Hi,
I was thinking of doing that this evening, swithching out the switch with the other side. You know, I'm not sure if the battery was replaced as I purchased it from the dealership and the Pre-Certified Owner Checklist seem to be ok. But I may have to suck it up and get it to a dealership and have a diagnostic ran on it as suggested previously to get to the bottom of the issue.

This is a very quick project to try and isolate the problem. The passenger door pad is a known good one...the new one you purchased is not yet proven good. Switch them and try it for a week. Also, make sure that when you pushed the unlock button on the fob, that the car responded to this...either blink of the LED on the door or flashing of headlights. I would also spray the plug connector for the door pad with contact cleaner. It may also be that the solenoid that opens the door is intermittent, but this would show up whether you were getting in or out of the car, not just getting in.

You didn't say what year model your car is, but my 2005 did the same thing. A GM rep on here had me take it local dealer. They found out the door module was bad. Replaced under warranty (my car was out of warranty). No more problems. Good luck.
I think what a previous post suggest was trying the passenger side when the driver side won't open instead of going directly into the trunk for the manual release.

I'm sorry, I have a 2010 Corvette Coupe. I do have the CPO 2 year warranty and I have another warranty on top of that. (Just wanted to make sure I was covered). So I actually found a Corvette place in my area and I will see what they can do.

Have you tried to open the passengers side, just to see if it is a FOB problem or drivers door lock issue?
